SAB (finally), mesh screen for grain prepping, and a noc loop.

Mesh screen is made out of a cheap canvas frame that I removed the canvas from.

made this auto-core-ejecting-biopsy-device!
produces a load of tiny "wedges" in seconds, which can be easily picked up with a needle and placed in small cryovials full of dest. H2O.
very accurate too for isolating single colonies when u try to isolate monokarions

the thing itself is made from normal steel, the handle is stainless. that way only the tip gets hot in my induction sterilizer...

Absolutely love my agar punch. I got lucky and received this one through a purchase for something else and got it for real cheap

Also, my bulk grain drying rack! Life was harder than it had to be before this thing!

I like the spring because then it’s one hand operation

This is what it looks like with the inner shaft removed

The inside β€œpush rod” is the same type of metal as the host rod. Both of them heat up well with the induction sterilizer. I got my induction sterilizer along with the agar punch both from thermohelix. He doesn’t usually sell agar punches but I was looking for one he recommended. So he sent me a spare he had.

Syringes, tweezers, scissors and stuff I still use a torch for as most of them are stainless or won’t heat with induction

can you try if/how it heats up when you leave out the push-rod? wanna know if its just stuff like my coil geometry (or what ever the reason is) or if its more general physics fucking with my shit... ^^

i minimized the use of open flame after setting my hand on fire once, by ignition of residual disinfectant. wearing nitrile gloves was pretty nasty mistake at that moment, melted instantly...

Here's a large container I found, 30cm ruler (12inches) for scale, it's about 75 liter capacity and roughly three times the size of the containers I routinely use for sgfc's but a bit taller, is it weird to be excited about buying a large container like this?

Now, what to do with it, large sgfc? any ideas?

I absolute share the excitement looking at tubs and bins. One of these days I am pulling the trigger on the ones they sell to store artificial Christmas trees.

Have you had a look at water tubs yet? They have pretty much replaced SGFCs

I separated them and was still able to heat both pieces individually. I also go my fingers once on the torch and melted my nitrile glove πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ not fun lol
