Tempted to do something about the rabbit population. Wondering if anyone has any ideas to retrofit my ropedart to snag one

I'd imagine a well aimed high powered pellet could work. I once shot a bird with a pellet and it died pretty readily. I feel bad about that, I was like 12. Couldn't shoot a bunny. Poor bunnies.

I don't want to use a gun is my point. I wanna use my ropedart.

I'm pretty experienced with it. Definitely a serious weapon that I would trust to save my life.

It's not about feeling what it's like, its about not wanting to walk around town with a pellet gun for some rabbit stew. I'm already walking around town practicing. I was actually hoping to find a way to retrofit it into a manual snare so I can catch it and put it down more humanely. But everyone I ask just tells me to make it sharper and give it barbs...

If I were hunting rabbits for food, and didn't want to use a .22 rifle, I'd probably go with a wrist rocket.

you wont get anywhere near a wild rabbit and be close enough to use a ropedart , if you want to go hunting do it properly and use a gun /air rifle.
* if you do get close enough to use a ropedart you have just killed some kids pet

thats simply not true. they let me get within 5 feet, especially in the twilight of the morning. I promise you they are wild, i live in a small town and know my neighbors pets.

If you let a domestic bunny wander outside unpenned with the raptors and wild dogs, it sounds to me like you killed your own pet.
Wild hares are obviously wild and habituated town hares don't give a fuck about you, they sit still and pretend they're a rock until you're within kicking distance. Using a gun or air rifle to hunt town hare is easy and effective, but it's certainly unsporting.

i used to shoot on a farm (hares/rabbit/pheasants etc) , getting anywhere near rabbits and hares with a shotgun and hitting them was hard enough , getting close enough to one then being about to hit it by hand would be almost impossible unless it was sick (even the ones that you got close too and startled shoot off like a bullet when they realise they have been seen)

I've never been much of a hunter, although I have. I enjoy many wild games, venison, squirrels, rabbit etc... grew up not killing anything you didn't intend to eat. Mom had an encouragement for snakes, but as she got older and took enough interest to id a snake, no longer condones killing non venomous ones (still highly skeptical of wild mushroom consumption?) I don't kill anything not threatening to me in my own habitat anymore except palmetto bugs. If I encounter even venomous creatures, it's always where THEY belong.
Your using a mele weapon here realistically. The Asian heros last resort is what a quick Google summarized. Don't bait this critter, find him in his natural habitat and this gives you no more advantage really than smashing it with a rock? Your not gonna get a georgia stump shitting king cotton tail this way I promise.... but if tou wanna eat city bunny why is this even a real turmoil ethically for you?

My apologies I missed understood your post. I say add a quick spring retrieval. Make It like scorpions whip from mortal combat... The only advantage you'd get is maybe a 2nd shot, and your odds are unlikely then. Aim well.....?

Farms aren't towns, and it seems you don't know what 'habituated' means.

OP's original post never said anything about anything being 'habituated' , im more concerned about the humane killing of animals rather than throwing bits of metal at them attached to a piece of string like someone whos watched too many bruce lee films. .... but hey crack on if wounding small animals is your thing , cause if you do manage to clip one without killing it i can guarantee you its not going to sit there.

I used to have one made by Jeff Adams.
Speaking as someone who can use a rope dart I think you are better off using a throwing stick. In fact some people call them Rabbit Sticks.

That's what I've been thinking too, my original idea was to put something akin to bolas on the end

I kind of like Andean Sling designs as well, but they are tricky to aim with.
