It does not contain nutrients so no need to pasturize. Just a really thin layer right out of the bag and misted regularly.

Looking nice Telomere.

Harvested the chia pet and friends last night. 220 grams dried to 15. Couple of little tubs coming along.
Thanks for all the advice on this thread. I appreciate all the work that’s been put in.

Those look great.

Pretty jealous of those caps and that spore coating.

This is my first time working with semps. I did 4 transfers on agar, then went to wheat grain. It grew lighter than my nat culture or other cube cultures, but still grew uniform. I spawned to bulk (100% coir, squeezed to hell to get it under field capacity). At the same time, I also spawned natalensis, which does not have lipstick mold (yet). Am I growing mold on my plates, not mycelium? What should my next steps be? Go back to germ or just try another plate? Thanks in advance for the help.

Semp grow bag w mold 1:

Semp grow bag w mold (same bag, another image)

Semp on agar. I took this chunk and transferred it to this plate, then dropped the rest of the agar on grain.

Nat bag, no mold so far:

Your semp plate looks good. How are you inoculating your grain bag? Bags in an SAB are a pain in the ass. Semp mycelium will be lighter and whispier than cube myc.

Edit: Also what is your grain prep and PC process. The grain bags look awfully dark for wheat. Could just be the pic.

Roscoe I think he spawned to the bag.

Pics of the grain spawn?

Grain prep: I boil the wheat for 15-20min, cutting grain to check for unconverted starches. I then dry on a screen with a fan for an hour or two, until totally dry on the outside. Load into mycobags and cook in my instapot for 3-4 hours w/ 15min blow off before sealing off the pot. Inoculate the grain with sections of agar plates in a vertical laminar flow hood. To prep the hood, I spray down with alcohol, wipe it down, and then cut off the fans for 2min. Vertical hood has drapes that cover the work area so it's essentially a SAB at the time. Knocked up the natalensis bag at the same time. These were about 1.25 mycopints each.

These grain bags were given 3 weeks to grow and then spawned to bulk coir that I pasteurized for 3 hours between 150-180'F. Cooled overnight in a sealed bucket, then squeezed and split between the natalensis and semp grains. I used a half of a brick of eco earth split between the two.

I am mixing the coir into the grain bags then compressing then adding a top layer and compressing. Growing solely in bags at the moment.

I saw that, but think it’s a casting mark in the plate lid. Mine have something similar.

Strangely, the second flush of the Bell Caps looks nothing like the First. Flush is also much lower than first round. With the time fruits take to mature I'm not sure going a second flush will be worth the time in the future.

The tubs made from LC from Bell Cap spore plate are also completely different. big fat stems and huge caps but all inverting. Also not the best pinset. Time will tell.

The more i see from posts here and from my own expérience i come to the assumption that this species is genetically still quite diverse and that differences in conditions etc. might bring out  different phenotypes potentially from one and the same agar plate. Quite spectacular !

Ps. Great work everybody, keep up the good spirits into 2024

I’ve noticed this with pans before. The genetics varying greatly from one flush to the next. Also the fruits getting shorter (or sometimes bigger, but more often shorter) in the next flush. Not sure what causes this.. maybe nutrient depletion 🧐 but also doesn’t explain why they can be bigger at times

From my short experience I tend to agree with you on this.

Should also be noted that all 12 of my shoeboxes are technically MS. The LC was made using Josex poke on spore plates, so although not as diverse as the actual spore plate I sent, still technically MS. None are from clone.

And i am running clones and still - the variability from one flush to another is spectacular..
