 Perlite.. A substitute for verm?

It has been impossible for me to find verm around here. I have done some reading and perlite is similar to verm. The two are actually described as being used interchangably during horticultural purposes on Vermiculite.net Any opinions on using it as a sub for verm? It seems it should work ok. I could be wrong though.
And yes, I know I can buy verm off the net!

thats wht i did and it worked . major stores like walmart and ace hardware dont sell it anymore because it has a cancer causing ingredient or somehting, but small nuserie buisnesses will carry it

I'm sorry to tell you this but you can use perlite in place of verm in cakes. I did it with my first 20 or 30 or so cakes before I found any verm and I got all right results for a beginner.
It's not optimal to use perlite instead of vermiculite but it can be done.

yes, you CAN use it, but the results are poor. so it's not recommended.
and Walmart DOES carry verm. I saw it there a few weeks ago.

That's the best advise for anyone that can follow sterile procedures.
For anyone that; A) Has no PC, B) Can't find vermiculite, C) Want's to grow some mushrooms, perlite in place of vermiculite will work. It won't be great, but you should get results if you don't mess up anything else too badly.

Not here, I've been to 3 diff ones. Lowe's is the only place that carries it here.

same. i had to get it from Lowe's. but later i found out that The Gas Pipe, and Texas Hydroponics also carries the stuff heh. so you might wanna check head shops that sell growing supplies.
