    #2859550 - 07/05/04 06:30 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

i vjust tested my cooker wiht 1 1/2 pint jar.. i put the flame on high until a rapid amount of steam was being released then i put it on medium and the steam was coming out slowly at this point i let it sit for an hour.. to keep the jar from touching the bottom of the PC i used an old oven mitt that i washed , when i opened the PC the water in it was brown from the oven mitt.. should i use something else to keeep the jars from touching the bottom or wil the PC sterilize it?

That oven mitt is as sterile as the jar, if not more so.

I mean, it maybe be a little dirty, but i wouldn't worry too much about it.

(they usually come with metal racks.....dont you have one of those?)

Don't worry about cooking it seperately man.....it'll be sterilized along with your jars. Probably faster than them, considering that wool? (or whatever the hell it's made out of) is probably much more heat conductive/dispersive than rye flower.

I'm sure you have a little vent pipe coming from the top, there should be a small metal 'bob' of some sort that sits on top of the pipe, without the weight you wont build enough pressure and all of your water will be in the air

or

you should also check your gasket on that thing, replace it if it looks a little worn...
