Does anyone know of a good password lock for Win Xp that is very difficult to breach?

password protect your screen saver, it that's the kind of securing you're looking for.

Just log out every time you leave the computer, using a password that is a random combination of numbers and letters and is not significant to you, personally. I hope that answers your question, as I'm a bit unsure about what you're asking.

Sorry to everyone whom I left confused.
What I would like is a program that protects my computer from being accessed. So when I first start my computer, I would like a password screen to open before XP, asking for my password to access to XP.

My bios allows me to do that. Look in there.

I see. Well I think following my orginal post will do the trick. XP security is pretty good, if you remember to log off/on. Unless the person knows your password, you should be able to prevent access.

Or unless they come in with a linux boot disk and mount your hard drive.

Crack into a computer by using a linux disk? I don't think that's possible. If it is, you'd still have to have some way to read the XP partition from the Linux partition, and I don't think that's possible.

It is. I do it all the time. #mkdir /windows #mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /windows #cd /windows
Now I have complete control of your windows partition.

XP Security Sucks! I can break the password of ANY XP, 2000, and NT server or workstation out there! I charge people $100 to recover there LOST/Forgoten passwords. Most are amazed that it takes me less than 3 min.
All OS's can be broken into! It is just easyest at the console (Sitting at the computer)
If you are looking for GREAT Security you will need to get rid of windows!
But in the more likely chance you are looking for GOOD security Try looking into encrypted encrypted partitions.
Once you get into encrypted filesystems/container files you gain a security that VARY FEW to NONE can break!
For windows take a look at
http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgpdisk/
For those of you running Linux you can easily do encrypted container files http://cl.xganon.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=viewnews&id=1
and securely store your keys via
http://cl.xganon.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=viewnews&id=2
With this kind of encryption your main password is less important as the data you need to keep private would be on the encrypted filesystem.

You are wrong..
Ok how about a list of the filesystems that Linux will read..

There are several file systems (that linux reads and writes) not in that list but it is a good overview.
It can also read/write/edit the SAM and edit windows registry files.

cmos password.
Just hit del when you are booting up and go into supervisor password.
don't forget it though. It will be like 50 bucks to fix at a computer store.

Or you can pull the cmos battery and reset it. Then there is no more password.

Thank you all for your great information.
I've decided just to use the ordinary Windows Password that comes with Xp because my only real threat at the moment is a 16 year old disobediant child. I will though keep in my of this thread, if the threat becomes more dangrous then I'll be checking back. Thank you all.
