Howdy yall! Just checking in, it has been a fun ride lately, a few red days but overall really beautiful charts (at least the ones I’ve got saved). To set and forget with such positive results in the matter of a month or so, just am super grateful really.

I noticed MARA has been steadily outperforming RIOT over the last crypto rally which is really interesting. I haven’t been able to find in articles what could account for the added steam behind this company, maybe they just operate at a larger scale and thus produce more BTC than their competitors. I am not shifting from RIOT (yet) but am keeping an eye on both.

Have been in Mexico this last week (and blessed to have been here for the third time in a month - wild trip planning haha). We saved the best for last with our annual Cabo trip. There is no place that makes you want to be retired so you can stay there permanently as well as Cabo San Lucas (or tell me if you know of another ). I normally don’t have my phone at the ready for pictures but everywhere I turn around here I feel the need to capture the beautiful landscapes and sunsets. Coming back to point of this thread and why I feel investing is so important - am hopeful that with 10-20 more years of stacking maybe can make the above want a have

Yep, the markets have been very kind this year. Was just looking at trips myself.

When you stay in Cabo do you do the all inclusive thing, or do you rent a condo sort of thing?

I fish 100+ days a year. Mostly fly fishing. When I'm down south for a vacay I try and get out and do some salt water fishing. Salt water fish are so much fun.

I freakin' love Mexico.  Haven't been to Cabo since I was a kid, I generally avoid the bigger cities when I can, but I have visited Baja somewhat recently to surf at a friend's gated community pad in Las Gaviotas, and road tripped to chow lobsters in Puerto Nuevo and check out Ensenada.

Spent time this past summer in San Pancho and visited Sayulita (but Sayulita is totally nuts, totally fun for a visit but San Pancho is more my speed).  I was just chattin' with a friend who is planning to skip on his lease renewal in Phoenix Arizona and turn "digital nomad" for a stretch.  Strongly encouraged him to consider San Pancho and/or Sayulita.  He's single and ready to mingle, digs yoga and all that, so Sayulita may be a better fit.  I'm a family man not tryin' to hang it all out there, so San Pancho suits my preference for an actual living environment.  Their main drag downtown still hosts a handful of great restaurants/bars and stuff for the more actively social lifestyle.  Sayu is a whole 'nother beast though, majorly dense with touristy stuff.  Nice for a visit but don't think I could live there.

We took over a timeshare for someone who was just going to stop paying and let it lapse. For what she initially invested it would have been an utter shame, and we have been making full use of the opportunity. Weve been here every year since 2015. We opt out of the all inclusive because you can get some amazing tacos at the marina, like better than just about everywhere. Aside from that we typically pay our transportation service to stop at costco so we can get drinks/breakfast foods - the total cost of that is much less than an all inclusive (at ours its $149/person per day, no thanks)

Not yet - but our daughter is still pretty young (7), so there just hasnt been a big motivation. If/when she would be interested we’ll definitely do it. I have a friend who lives for fishing, especially around mexico - I know if we asked hed probably help us book something amazing.

Geo that picture just speaks to the beauty of Mexico in general - pretty much anywhere you look youre like wow I need to get this as a photo! Sounds like a fun time for your friend too, I remember days like those, and think its good for the soul to go tramp around the world, I hope he does it

Alright, first day of the New Year's trading and nothing dramatic going on.  Folks used Q4 2023 to position themselves for potential rate cuts this year, and because of the large returns in 2023, it is not unreasonable to expect that there could be some profit taking over the coming week or two, as traders sitting on gains waited until the new tax year to book profits, so they won't owe anything to Uncle Sam until 2025.

That being said, I am interested in keeping an eye out for opportunity during any potential pull back.  Microsoft and Nvidia are at the top of my list for active trading, as they both have an excellent fundamental backdrop (continued and/or accelerating revenue growth) into 2024, and have been basing sideways for a while, thus allowing the 50 day moving average to sit closely below the current price.

Because MSFT has the tightest squeeze on its bollinger bands, and is presently moving down some 2% toward the bottom of its range in very close proximity to its 50 day MA, I am legging into a position via March $370 calls.  Small size to start, just in case the 50 day doesn't hold... with an alert at $377 to add on a move up and through that level (especially on a close above that level).

Waiting on NVDA for now, as the near term chart is a bit sloppier.  Would look to start legging into a position on a bounce at $450-$465, and/or a close above $500.

AI at its 50 and 200 day looks somewhat interesting, but the chart is sloppy and whippy, and I think MSFT offers easier-to-manage exposure to the AI leaning tech sector, even as AI's volatility can lend itself to outsized returns.  If I can catch AI on a move up through $32, that could be a nice trade, but for now, I'll sit on my hands and see how the market shakes out over the coming weeks.

Quick note on TSLA, as I know ManianFH has been holding it.  Looks like there are some real headwinds for the EV industry at the moment, as buyers may wish to wait for additional charging infrastructure to be built out before taking the plunge on a vehicle that is as or more expensive than its internal combustion counterparts while being more difficult to take on long haul trips, especially now that gas prices have been easing a bit.  Further, TSLA recently posted annual revenue growth of 25% after having declined 25% the prior year from its peak.  This means they're not even back to their 2022 levels of revenue generation.  That would corroborate what the chart shows, which is a pretty sloppy sideways chop with lower highs and lower lows over the past six months.  Delivery numbers later in January could set the stock up for some potential upside, but that remains unknown, and the intermediate to longer term outlook is not very encouraging on a fundamental basis.  In other words, I'm OK with trading TSLA, but it doesn't give me the good feels for longer term exposure in the way that revenue growth giants such as MSFT and NVDA would.

Hey Geo, thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding TSLA. While it is something I do want longterm exposure to, I would prefer to stay nimble and hopefully take advantage of its swings - and most certainly not ignore the advice of more sage traders .

I will assess tomorrow and maybe trim some holdings/set tight stops across different areas. With all the recent upward movement I suppose the probability for a short term correction might be higher than normal - I would hate to give it all back.

Adding to MSFT March $370 calls and started some NVDA March $480 calls.  I like the pull backs over the last three days, with a bounce right above the 50 day, all while the S&P is also bouncing at its 20 day MA.  Nice entry if I do say so myself, as stop levels are very clear (and close!).

Edit: Pretty gross market close. Stopped outta my MSFT mentioned earlier in the day. Alerts set to revisit when appropriate. NVDA survives, at least for today.

NVDA moving through $500, a close above this level would be very encouraging.  Still holding those March $480 calls, up quite handily now.

Edit: Fresh all time high now.  The cool thing about stocks that hit all time highs is, they tend to keep doing it for a while.

NVDA has been consolidating for six months, I think this move could last a while now that we're through resistance. :yesnod:

I put 15k into a index fund at my bank and it's already up $480 in a little less than 2 months, last time I had to wait 14 months to earn $750 in a gic, hopefully this index fund keeps growing he said my dividends are automatically put back in

Picked up a fresh starter in MSFT via a March $375 call this morning at the open.  Added a March $380 call just now on the move to a new HOD.  This one is coming out of a squeeze at its 50 day similarly to how NVDA looked a few days ago.  I got shaken out of MSFT last week, but it's looking better now.

I'm a bit more cautious on this one however, as the S&P is starting to squeeze a bit just under its recent highs, and it may take a little time to chew through resistance.  There are some highly watched economic reports coming out through the balance of the week, add the fact that the SPY is currently trading below the day's VWAP.  So I'd be surprised to see as much of a blast on MSFT as we saw with NVDA short-term, but the setup is still technically appropriate, and I do want to participate.

I love this portion of a note Dan Fitzpatrick sent out this morning, a fine nugget of wisdom indeed!

Took the other half of my NVDA March $380 calls off for +115%.  Stock has hugged the second standard deviation bollinger band for three days running.  Relative strength today isn't what it was the last two days, as we've been flirting with breaking VWAP several times.  Since this is a leveraged position, I'm shutting it down.  Still hold some common stock in a separate account, and would look to reload with options on a pullback-bounce.

Picked up a little MSTR today, as it appears to be bouncing near its 50 day moving average after a 24% pullback over the past seven trading days.  This company owns billions in bitcoin, and pledges to continue funneling profits from company performance, secondary share offerings and low cost debt into continued bitcoin purchases.  It's virtually a leveraged bitcoin ETF proxy and with the overall crypto market finding its footing (bitcoin just hit a high of the day), I think it's worth a shot.  Stop at today's VWAP.

I'd note that MSTR as of 12/27/23, held 189,150 BTC, worth ~$8.75B versus a $7.89B market cap.
