I have a 300 gallon aquarium, and it's big enough to fit a small couch in it, if that gives you an idea of the size.

I grow with a Martha right now.

I'm wondering if anyone can think of a way to keep one batch of mushrooms growing for years.

I imagine, if you filter the air, sterilize the water, and keep feeding them pasteurized or sterilized substrate, then you could just let them keep growing forever.

I'd like to keep them as pets in my living room and as a beautiful display as decoration.

Maybe even use decorative rocks and stuff to create a landscape.

I imagine that if you were careful, the healthy mycelium could fend off any contamination.

Feeding them and thinning out the old mushrooms would be the biggest danger.

I imagine you would have to keep very specific conditions that discourage other types of fungus and mold, but the mycelium is very good at protecting itself.

I wonder if it's possible to keep magic mushrooms as pets?🤔

Maybe indefinitely.

Didn't get any interest, so I will answer my own question.

It's called a kinocorium, and I imagine that it works best with wood lovers.

But I'm sure you could put some chunks of colonized grain under the surface and get some cubes too.

I was thinking more of a permanent canopy, but that could just be a little too tricky to maintain very long turm.

You can definitely do it with wood lovers.

I recommend you give it a try, or go Google some pictures.

It's beautiful

Slower growing longer lived types like Zaps might be worth considering for something like this, but I suspect all things are temporary and that any culture can experience senescence eventually.

There's members with outdoor patches of wood lovers going strong after more than a decade. A whole lot less fkn around like that I would think.
