Lions mane - ready to fruit?
    #28552339 - 11/22/23 01:36 AM (2 months, 5 days ago)

My first attempt at growing on wood chip bags (RRs Recipe - wood chip (Beech chips), sawdust (oak), wheat bran, gypsum). First thought I messed it up but seems like it's just a bit slower than I anticipated. Happy to see what i believe is clean and good growth. The bag was inoculated with approx. 8 ml of liquid LC and is colonising since about one month.

Is the bag ready to be fruited? How best should I proceed? I would just cut the bag open on top, dunk for about 24 hours and then fruit open air. Does that sound like a reasonable way to proceed?

Thanks for your advice

It's ready to fruit. Just cut a slice in the bag where it's touching the substrate. The mushroom will sense the oxygen and fruit from there. Don't strip the bag as the block will dry out. No need to dunk.

You can use a shotgun fc, a Martha or just mist the block several times a day.

Awesome, thanks for your help!!

Is it better to slit just one side? Or can I cut a slit on the two long sides? Also how exactly would I mist if I leave it open air and bag closed? Maybe best to open the bag in the top to mist?

Thanks 🙏

Don't open the top for misting. Just mist the slits you've cut by spraying water to them.

Looking good and indeed ready to fruit. I always wait till I see some first mushroom growth in the bag before I fruit, which always worked great.

I found you can also open/cut off the plastic bag top, but the fruits will be less dense than when cutting a slit.

The thread in my sig has pics and more info.
Good luck!

Thanks for your Tipps!! I made a large horizontal cut on each side yesterday. Will make sure to fold over the bag in the top when I'm home. Also could already see little fruits growing on top

Looking forward to seeing the results and trying these awesome looking shrooms :chugbeer:

Sorry for the delay.. was very busy these days and didn't have time to check the shroomery.

I kinda messed it up and forgot to fold down the top as you said. Just did the slits on the side but seeing as there was still much oxygen in the top it just continued fruiting there.

Either way I'm happy with the results for my first grow  Now I know better for next time..

Dumbass question  what do you usually do with your lions mane? Dry it and make capsules for better concentration or so? Just tried it for the fun and didn't really put much though into what to do with it

Cook it and eat it! It's delicious. I like cut it up and just toss it in with my stir fry veggies

i feel like lions mane is polarizing. some people love to eat it, others not so much. there are many ways you can cook with it rather than encapsulating.

dry saute is a good idea if youre doing something like a stir fry. this will help release some moisture. lm is water dense and can become saturated especially if its been stored in the fridge for a time.

another easy thing to do that's palatable is to slice it like bread, rub with some oil and seasonings and roast it at 400 for 30 minutes or so.

Sauted them last night and it was delicious 😋

Thanks again for your support!! Will make some capsules next time and see if they help me concentrate better
