ID REQUEST

These were growing off of a dead branch of my pomegranate tree.

Found these growing in cyan habitat. Late fall, Northern California.

Looks like Schizophyllum commune and Agaricus species, respectively.

I wonder if anyone could help ID the agaricus. If it’s edible, I want to bring some home with me to propagate.

Looks like some chrome yellow stains on the stem base of the left specimen in the last picture.

Maybe a bit late now, but always squeeze the stem base and take a deep whiff, you should be able to
determine whether it smells like an edible species or not.

I think it’s the only mushroom that eats people
At least I think that’s what Alan told me.

It also has over 20k different genders

It can apparently cause some infections, but it is probably rare.
I see that it is also considered anticarcinogenic, but I take claims
off the internet with a few salt shovels until proper proof is available.

If you have a compromised immune system, pretty much anything that can possibly live on you **might** cause an infection... but yeah it's rare. IRL I'm a medical photographer. I once, long ago before there were effective treatments for HIV, photographed a guy who had algae colonizing his skin. He was slightly green..

Technically any spore bearing mold/fungi might give you a lung infection, but it's not common.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Wow,  pretty amazing stuff! The reason I asked is because I find them frequently here and I'm trying to get  of all the medicinal mushrooms that I can get my hands on  :yesnod:

I've never tried it.. but it sounds like it's edible and some cultures enjoy it greatly - though perhaps an acquired taste? It's said to be tough and rubbery, but other things like cloud ears are too and they are enjoyable. That it is fuzzy might be off putting to me. Maybe it cooking makes it less so.

A quick search finds many recipes, it looks like, mainly from South Asia.
