Yeah, ten years at least. They're both several years younger than my Shroomery account.

I read that platinum is down over the last 10 years because manufacturing has switched to palladium for a lot of stuff it was using platinum for, before.

Silver is at $25 today,my PSLV is up a bunch, like $75, that with my bitcoin and my portfolio is up more then its been in a while

I dont want to say dont buy silver but its definitly not a dip, but who knows maybe it will moon

I just bought a couple silver rounds the other day, along with some junk silver and  along with some first strike circulation coins

because a youtuber convinced me first strike Charles coins might be good to have, and maybe he was right because they are sold out already, I got them just in time

Took my TSLA off this morning as it fell through the morning low print about an hour into the session.  I had been playing via front month call options (Dec $240's), so I didn't want to risk overstaying my welcome given that they only have a couple of weeks time on them, and am happy for the overnight +30%, even as it was much higher on the launch of the day's open.  I'll probably keep my eye on this for another test/bounce at its 8 day EMA @ ~$240 this week as a potential opportunity to re-enter with a longer dated contract.  Although it's off its lows for the day, it's still below VWAP, as is the S&P, so I see no reason to get aggressive right here right now.

It's an Eagles type of day... "Take the money and run" :headbang:

Sold a couple of $27 puts on AI expiring next Friday.  Nice bounce above its earnings selloff yesterday to reclaim the 50 day MA.  Don't really want a lot of exposure over the weekend, so this is a conservative way to generate a little income.

Considered a bull put spread on NVDA and FB as well, but didn't fire the trade in time and the premiums are no longer what I sought.

Bitcoin Miner MARA still killin' it, as is MSTR, and crypto in general.

My gic matured

I took out the $775 interest and bought a metal detector

But instead of putting my 15k back into another gic, I got a index fund at my bank

It has like a bunch of banks, and enbridge, Microsoft, most of them are high yielding dividends and the dividends go right back to purchessing more shares so its like compounding

He said it was the way to if I dont need the money for a few years and dont want to do the trades myself online

At first he showed me one with amazon and alphabet and others like that, but he said it was more risky and some years it was was like minus 10% so I noped out and thats when he showed me the dividend one I chose

Now I need to call my other bank, and invest the 20k in my retirement fund, I should have done it months ago, I'm thinking getting like 2.5k gold, 2.5k silver and 15k vgro

META looking like it wants to bounce off of its 50 day MA.  NVDA with a similar pattern.  I had some bids out on META yesterday when I saw the turn off the morning lows with a near perfect tag of the 50 day MA, but I was conservative on my bid and never got a fill.  The stock looks even better today, but I'm still a little gun shy what with how strong the market has been.

The SPY and QQQ are well extended above their 50 day MA's, so it's hard for me to buy here, but the bollinger bands on these indexes are starting to squeeze a bit, I just kind of want to see a little more sideways action to let the 50 day MA catch up to price before getting too aggressive.

I did take a little MSTR today just above $550.  It's pulled back some 8% from its highs near $600 just two days ago, and I'm seeing a pretty decent 1.6% bounce in crypto over the last 30 minutes after correcting some 10% over the last couple of days.  Stop at the low of day.

What's do you think would be the best way to split $5000 between gold and silver stocks held on for 30 years

I'm thinking instead of 50-50 like I stated above, I should do 2k gold 3k silver, as silver might have more of an upshot by then

With a 30 year time horizon I'd probably forget about gold and silver and put 80% stocks 20% bitcoin.  Bitcoin reacts to currency debasement similarly to gold, although in a leveraged way due to its supply scarcity.  So I think bitcoin serves as a currency debasement hedge better than precious metal at this juncture (there is added risk because it is a new asset class and the technology could prove unstable or a better alternative could manifest, but for now, it's the beezneez).  Because your time horizon is three decades, you can weather the volatility for long term capital appreciation in riskier assets.  Hence why a diversified index of stock holdings should comprise, the bulk of your exposure, as the asset class has a history of performing well over long periods of time.

The 20k is held in a government funded RDSP retirement account, I cannot put any on bitcoin, and I cannot withdrawn any till 10 years after the last deposit, and my last deposit will probably be in a few years when my dissability tax credit expires and I'm not allowed to put anymore money into my RDSP retirement account without a DTC

It sucks cause I think I should have the DTC forever, but my primary doctor is lame its a long story

Maybe 5 years ago or so I asked my doctor to fill out the DTC forms, and she basically said I am totoaly fine day to day and they denied my application

Then last year I asked my psychiatrist to fill out the DTC and she got me it, back dated 10 years to 2012, the backdating is a freakin miracle it got me $10k free money

But you need to fill out a new application every 3 or every 5 years or something I'm not sure

My psychiatrist got my medication stable and passed me off to my primary doctor

So when I need to reapply I think I'm going to be denied cause of the way the primary doctor fills out my forms

So untill my DTC expires ive been maxing out the RDSP to get the maximum amount of grants and bonds, which means I need to put $3500 in a year and I get $10,500 from the government, which comes out to me putting in $293 every month

I hope to get the account up to like 30 or 40 maybe even 50k before my DTC expires, I'm unsure how many years I have left, I need to call canada revenue agency and ask

Up 30% on MSTR (Jan $550 call) and 14% on META (Jan $330 calls) today.  Market liked the Fed standing pat on rates, but really liked less hawkish forecasting.

QQQ is looking beautiful, if we were to see a pullback bounce at $390, that would be a great place to load the boat.  You could also buy the XLK.

Overall, I still think the market needs a little bit of a rest, but the trend in aggregate remains strong.  S&P is close to printing an all time high.  Get it while it's good!

Re: STOCKS - An Intro Tutorial & Ongoing Discussion [Re: geokills]
    #28582591 - 12/14/23 01:02 PM (1 month, 13 days ago)

Closed out my META for a wash today, the trend is still fine, but looking at the chart today, I don't get the feeling that I would want to BUY it with today's action, and therefore I would rather close it for a wash than let it potentially turn into a loss.  If I held common stock, I would have let it ride, but options are leveraged and have a time component, which can really sting if you don't keep them on a tight leash.

MSTR still going strong, I moved the stop up to the low of day to protect profit.

My puts on AI look all but guaranteed to expire worthless on Friday.  I'm actually bidding $0.02 to close them out preemptively just because it's not worth to maintain the risk on my books for two additional days, since 99% of the profit has been realized.  Should've bought calls on this one, but who knew?  I do have some AI common in a separate family account, so that's nice on today's +12% day.

Overall market continues to imrpess.  We gotta get a rest here at some point, and I hope it's soon to, to back test the recent breakout and give me an opportunity to buy a little more aggressively.  Volume is bound to thin out over the next couple of weeks as we get deeper into the holiday, and I suspect folks with a lot of gains may wait until January to book some profits in order to put off the taxes for another year.  So depending on how things shake out, I probably won't get aggressive until the new year, even if we do get a pull back before Christmas.

Stopped out of MSTR for a nice profit (although not as nice as it was yesterday ).  Ah well, so it goes.  Trading books are more or less flat heading into the weekend.  Let's see if we can't get a little pull back next week.

Thoughts on Lockheed Martin (LMT) stock?  I've held for a few years and it has only given me some income. Approx. 10% return since 2018 when I started to invest and now just holding.  Basically just profiting off of dividends, which isn't all that significant.  Catalysts would be large sales of their F-35 jets, replenishment of missiles, hypersonic missiles, and the stock goes up 8% when war breaks out.

You could do a lot worse.  The defense industry is well funded, and Lockheed is a major player.  With the drawdown in military inventory given to Ukraine and Israel, and China's continued ramping up of their military capabilities, I can't imagine LMT is going to be hurting for business anytime soon.  If you're happy collecting the dividend and aren't looking to actively trade, I think LMT is a fine place to park your money.  The stock hasn't performed very well over the past year, but the longer term, ten year trend is intact.

Yes very true.  I am thinking if this stock jumps 20-25% for any reason within a short amount of time, then I may move this money into WYNN resorts.

Took a handful of AMZN January $150 calls this morning on its very solid breakout from a tight sideways squeeze over the past month.  Already up +25%, but the setup here, with holiday shopping in full effect, makes me think this has legs to $160.

How are people feeling about precious metals? I think platinum is still rational but gold and silver has been extremely over bought since the mass hysteria of the pandemic :sadyes:

I honestly feel like precious metals are for old money.  I have a handful, spread between gold, silver and palladium... but I'm not adding to those stacks and I don't think I'm likely to do so, ever again.  Kick and scream all you want, crypto is where you want to be.
