Interesting Non-active find. All over chocolate brown, waxy looking

Habitat:
Well compacted slightly mossy dirt (between sidewalk and street- urban)

Gills:
dark brown, appear to be quite strongly decurrent

Stem:
also dark brown stubby/mostly hidden (did not pick)

Cap:
medium sized - about 2-4 inches, many distorted/ clumped

Spore print color:
did not pick

Bruising:
none

It is a species of Cortinarius, possibly in the subgenus of Telamonia, featuring some deformation and abnormal growth.

Ah - yes that makes sense. They were odd ball looking, all of them, I think perhaps because of the hardness of the soil they were pushing up through. Could be something like C. cacao-color maybe..
