Erowid is hosting a copy of this with color pictures.

The botany and chemistry of hallucinogens
Golden guide
and Plants of the gods
all contain pretty much the same information with some subtle variations. The golden guide goes for about $300 online and is very difficult to find. My botany teacher had a copy and I was green with envy.

Very nice classic text.

What a great book.I bought my copy for 1.95$ back when it came out.
It's still the cornerstone of my library.

What is really cool is that I bought a hard copy for about $3.00 in 1979 or so and when Dick Schultes autographed my copy for me he stated that it had been out a year or so and he did not even receive his copy of the hardbound edition.

There is a lot of inaccurate info regarding the amanita and viking beserkers and some on the Panaeolus sphinctrinus id'section. The rest is pretty cool, but most info in the guide was condensed into the scripted plkant sections in plants of the gods and now a new edition re-edited by Christian Raastch still left in the Panaeolus sphinctrinus errors.

Have a shroomy day. Some University libraries still have copies int heir rare book sections or references sections of the Natural Science Departments

Cool link. The book talks about some plants I haven't heard of. Worth a read.

This is about the only book in my personal library that I regret not having. I am proud of being a book junky and spending nearly 1/2 of every paycheck I have gotten in the past 5 years on books. It's a rather sick addiction.

MJ, Are you telling me there is no connection to vikings and amanita muscaria? I had no idea. Please explain.

ps, if you have the option dont do best print, i wish i hadnt.  probably why it used so much.
