pinning only on bottom of cakes
    #2858560 - 07/05/04 12:59 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

i couple of my cakes have started pinning, but they are only pinning on the bottom/underneath. The are sitting on jar caps on a wet perlite layer. also some of the cakes are turning blueing in areas. i think its ovious they arnt getting enough moisture? although the top of the terrarium has plenty condenstation. what can i do to get more moisture near the top of the cakes? should i flip the cakes over?
thank you

i did dunk and role, should i mist the verm again? could the blueing be caused from my misting solution which has a little bit of h2o2 in it?

This is typical of cakes placed on top of perlite (even if on top of jar lids). This is the result of the microclimate present near the surface of the perlite (which is usually much more saturated with micro humidity than he air, say 2-3 inches above it. The only thing that will keep this from happening is to raise your cakes up a bit (using something under the jar lids) or more frequent fanning / air exchange in the chamber.

Blueing is almost always a reaction caused by the handling of the cakes and slight bruising of the mycelium.
