I had these gifted to me specifically for agar, it was thoughtful. I don't pour with them though.

Perhaps he pours hot
Removal from the PC will definitely burn.
Yeah, as soon as I open the PC, I grab the cans with one hand and twist the top with the other to close the vent hole. I have been using silicone trivets but it’s awkward and regular oven mitts don’t have enough grip.
I do pour hot at 60°C and my IPA towel has always been sufficient but now I’m really looking forward to using the glove for that too.😃

I just now seen your cans in the other thread. Looks awesome. And how do you pour so hot without getting condensation

I just tighten the cap on my media bottles, and lift them by the cap out of the PC with nitrile gloves. Maybe use a clean oven glove/hot pad to support the bottom if you're worried it might drop. Then, move them quickly into the SAB and loosen the cap, where they cool until ready to pour. Pour with just nitrile gloves. Heat hasn't been an issue. I was going to buy those thick silicone gloves, but I never did.

I wish I had some secret, but I don’t know. I just don’t have condensation issues. I use about 450ml per 30 100mm plates, stack them 10 high and leave them to cool in the hood. This is one I did today.

They probably look so clear because glass petris, hot agar pours easier so you can get thinner pours. Mine are probably closer to 25ml since I pour warm ~125°F. And pouring in front of a flowhood eliminates condensation a lot quicker. Last time I poured, I let my plates sit in the SAB at least 5 days before wrapping. No condensation, no contam...good to go.

Do your plates have condensation at all when they go in the bags? How long do you let them cool in front of the FFU and do you rotate them or anything?

I let them sit 30min to an hour in the hood and don’t mess with them. When I bag them, sometimes I’ll have a bit of condensate on only the top plate of the three stacks. It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the ffu, because it’s the same as when I used the SAB.
Ironically, I started using glass petris to do no pours, but never liked the results, including condensation issues. So now I just pour them and all is right in the world.🤣

Cool thanks for the answer, was just curious. I use plastic plates and pour at the same temp and will get terrible condensation immediately and for multiple days until things eventually slowly start to dry up. Even then, if I remove a plate from the stack and store it by itself, condensation will return within a day or two. I've just gotten used to it at this point. Always fun to compare variables though.

Glass holds heat well, so it drives the condensation away. It's the same reason that glasses in the dishwasher come out dry but plastic crap always has water on it after a cycle.

Yeah makes total sense. If anything makes me switch to glass it'll be that nice little bonus.

I made some storage/cooling racks for my cups, the same design would work for petri dishes as well, they just need to be a little bigger.
