A Sous Vide heater for water baths. I use water from the PC after sterilization and set it to 123°F, Agar stays at pouring temperature for as long as i need it to. Works well for when I'm multitasking and I'm not waiting for a short window to pour plates

I used a torch that I fill with butane with a wide base. Don't need to worry about the top heavy factor and doesn't fall over.

Use the little green 1# propane camping tanks. They're too wide to tip over, and propane is cheaper than butane.

I’ll have to see if we’ve got anything like that here in Australia, most likely at a camping store instead of hardware?

I've heard of people filling them, even though it is against DOT regulations. Is it safe/easy?

In the States, you can find them everywhere. Camping stores, hardware stores, big box stores...

The hardest part is making sure the 1lb tank is below the liquid level in the big tank when you open the valve, but with a little planning it's not hard to turn the big tank upside down or lay it on it's side first. Search for propane refill adapter and you should see lots of options. You can find those propane bottles at most supercenter type grocery stores or home improvement places. If you buy them from a camping supply place, they will be more expensive. DOT rules are only applicable if travelling on public roads, but honestly theres no way anyone could even tell the original source of the propane.

So I spent too much on a brush specifically for my Mason jars. What of it?!

I have a brush just like that next to my toilet. Should work pretty good. I’ll give it a try

It is indeed quite toilet brush like. I had to tell the other members of my house that despite looking exactly like, and probably functioning like, a toilet brush, it was not to be used for any toilet brushing. The biggest difference is the diameter, this is 3.5" on the brush OD, and the bristles go about 6" down the length of the handle. Your traditional shit scraper is a little smaller in both dimensions.

Anyone have a recommendation for good hot gloves that handle up to 75°C? Good dexterity and hopefully non absorbent. I can find plenty of lab gloves, but they’re too thick and overkill for just 75°C. Thanks all!

Why do you need those for agar? Do you pour hot as shit or just for hanging onto to swirl the bottle around?

Taking the media bottles out of the PC while hot. Plus SPG uses glass petris with metal sleeves, not fun to touch, I'd bet.
Perhaps he pours hot
Removal from the PC will definitely burn.

10-4 that makes sense. I just use regular oven mitts for taking out of the PC. And then pour cooler.
