A good website / database for this information is iNaturalist. You can type in a species alongside an area & it'll show you a map with the entries people have made for that particular species.

South-Africa isn't exactly the safest country in the world. Especially not for women. KwaZulu-Natal, the type location for p.natalensis, is probably one of the safer places in that country.

iNaturalist and mushroom observer are both great websites that helped me find my first mushrooms on a hunt. I definitely reccomend.
I definitely don't recommend traveling to many places as a westerner, specifically a female. It's been a long time since my family went to Africa, it was safe back then, but I think a lot of new conflicts have made things quite dangerous in some of the countries.

Surprised to see quite a few finds of Psilocybe cyanescens from South Africa on iNaturalist.

They're taking over. Need to get them going in Norway! They really are fantastic!

A bit too cold there, maybe? Far south near the coast might be possible... I don't know. I think it has been found in Denmark.

My region is traditionally rather mild and very humid until quite late in the fall. Kinda reminiscent of the climate in and around Seattle and Vancouver. However this year the freezes came early and abruptly. But I believe they might take hold if introduced properly. Wood chip landscaping is becoming more common. Just need to get some prints smuggled in, spores became illegal in Norway around ten years ago.

Sure, west coast is also pretty mild along the sea. But Norway being Norway, it's not unusal getting -10°C even in the mildest parts, eventhough it doesn't happen every winter. I don't know how much cold the cyanescens can take? It should be more common in Denmark.

Someone here has fruited them in northern Wisconsin fairly consistently. So they can handle freezing.

I know they can handle freezing, just don't know how much. Northern WI does have similar winter temperatures as southern Norway. Do they come back every year?

Of course these are azzies but I doubt that matters assuming cyans aren't really that different and tend to thrive in the same places.
