Growing your own antibiotics?
    #2858130 - 07/05/04 06:20 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Anybody know anything about fungi (like pennicillium) or other culturable organisms that produce antibiotics, and extracting and using the antibiotics they produce?

I read a post a while ago of some dude who used prepared turkish tea to cover spots of contams. According to him it halted the contams and the tea would be colonized by the fungus. If this is true i dunno. Also green tea is pretty good against bacteria.

And its possible to use frogs as an insect repelend. Dunno where i saw that tho.

I have used tabacco drenched in water in a spraybottle against little insect on my plants and that works as a charm but i don't know how fungus will react to that stuff tho...

mmmm growing penicillin could be dodgy as a lot of strains were isolated and tested to find the least toxic and the most benificial strains for medical use.
Reishi and cordiceps on the other hand lend themslves to home cultivation, with  reishi being theleast complicated of the two .
some comercial strains are also available of the above .

if you haven't already head over to mushworld.com and check out the medicinal section. shiitake extract erases tumors, reishi extract accelerates skin healing and reduces scarring, the list goes on. not necessarily antibiotics but enlightening information nonetheless.

that could be cool. just dont attempt to injest them when you are sick. could make youself sicker and in teh wrong doses and tiem frame create a super bug immune to pennacillin.
