I have not been fooled. I’ve been paying attention to what he’s been saying. What he’s actually doing. That’s what formed my opinions about him. Not any of his appearances on television.
The actions make a man. The words he says, are also terrible though.

I don’t watch the news. I read it. I use different sources, so as not to be biased.
I feel like you’ve been ignoring some of the things he’s been saying. Did you watch the clip that I linked? It seems pretty clear what he stands for.

Yeah he was saying on day one he’s going to pass some executive orders. You think he was saying he’s literally going to be a dictator?

You didn’t watch it?
Because he literally said in the third maybe second sentence. ” I will be a dictator day one.” That’s why I linked it. That was mind blowing. He literally said it out loud.
People applauded that…

I’m now aware I was swayed.
Peak trump in the news was also peak Covid lockdown, peak aimlessly doomscrolling for hours, and I got served an insane amount of anti-trump flavoured stuff during this time.
I think these factors combined in such a way that caused a lot of people to take sides, myself included, who would otherwise have just been chilling. Here in Canada I also noticed a huge increase in every issue getting framed as “left” vs “right”, or “good vs bad” from whatever side of the fence you’re viewing it from.
I’ve always leaned toward SPG’s not giving a fuck approach. But started accidently giving a fuck about shit I don’t even give a fuck about.

I’m honestly on that same path atm. Cutting down on the constant never ending stream of “stuff” was long overdue and has been good for me.
Now most of my screen time is spent at work or talking about the real important topics in life, like growing mushrooms in my closet.

Unpopular opinions
Everyone should vote.
Not consuming news is just making you less aware of your surroundings. Really doesn’t benefit you.
Just because I’m aware of the political landscape doesn’t mean that I am consuming too much media.

You gotta start with actually being aware of your surroundings AND biases. It helps if you get facts, not mainstream media news. I’m glad you’re interested and want to be involved in the process, but man you gotta read more than a headline dude.

I try to largely ignore It, but social media/news feeds me more content about American politics than of my own country From the outside, it seems like the whole thing has been made to be larger than life and very divisive. I hope that the media just makes this divide out to be worse than it really is in daily life.
The content I’m fed by the algorithm is definitely super biased to what it thinks will align with my beliefs. It’s actually scary that social media has subconsciously swayed my opinions on US politics, a topic which I have a very limited understanding of and don’t actually care to get myself emotionally invested in.
My Unpopular Opinion: I do vote at every election, state and national.
I do not read the newspapers regularly and never watch the news unless someone shows me something.
I do not use social media, other then Tik Tok.
I read the voters pamphlets and try to reduce as much noise as possible.
I found that I got caught up in things that did not matter to me. It is more important to me that I be part of the solution than rallying behind someone that does not care about the problem or me.
Politics in my opinion are just a way to turn people against each other. And I don't have room for negativity in my brain.

I read news from British Columbia, America, Japan & I read news from Ukraine.
I don’t just read headlines. I read all of the news. I find context. I care about what happens in the world.

The LGBT should split up into the Ls, the Gs, the Bs, and teh Ts. They should just go be with their own kind and no longer associate with the other letters or normal people.

Yes, seems young people in particular don’t see the value but could collectively have a voice if they cared to.

That’s fair, but I was consuming too much for me personally. I wanted to throw my phone off a cliff most of the last few years but didn’t want to lose my scrolly feel good dopamine machine

It just feels like people have accepted the false narrative that they have no voice or opinion in how things happen around them.
If people were more aware of the words that people are using. Or they saw how things are shifting. They could say something about it. Start a discussion involving these topics. So that we have a chance to change things before they happen.
I was telling people that Ukraine was about to get invaded for weeks before it happened.
Stupid YouTubers like Hassan even said that would never happen. He has millions of subscribers. That just accepted that would never happen. Without ever thinking about it. Without looking up any of these disturbing articles discussing the saber rattling about Nazism in Ukraine before it happened. It’s really obvious if you know what you’re looking at. It’s kind of like mushroom hunting. You can just walk through the forest. But if you pay attention and really look for the shapes that are forming. You can see a lot more. Which helps you to be better informed about where you’re walking.
If you need to protect your mental health by not consuming the news. I understand. The news is diabolical.

With that same energy you can put into action to help out instead of just watching. That is not directed at you but in general.
I don't need to absorb myself in when somewhere is getting bombed etc. The only thing I can do that makes a difference is vote or protest. I do both.
I only have so many hours in the day. And so much energy. That is not where I want to put mine. Reading about negative things.

I read good news too. Education is the best way to combat misinformation. Protest are great until fascist show up and pepper spray you. Not to say there isn’t a time & place for it. Discussion is usually the best way. If that fails protest. If that fails violent protest.

Fascism triggers me. I don’t stand for it. I certainly don’t like hearing somebody brag about it in an interview.
