Is it just me, or does it seem like the majority of the "Similar threads" at the bottom of a thread, are Way OLD....like averaging 15+ yrs.

There's probably a few things going on:
Post volume was higher before the rise of social media. And many forums, like this one, have been around for decades. There's such a large number of old posts compared to new ones that any random thread is likely to be old.
The similar thread list is only regenerated when a thread receives a new reply. If you're viewing a thread which hasn't received a reply in a long time, the similar threads will also always be old.
And most importantly, the similar threads aren't weighted towards more recent posts. If we wanted, we could automatically give a boost to newer threads so they're more likely to appear in the results. But that's a tradeoff, since it means the newer results are replacing more relevant threads. Plus, one purpose for the similar threads list is to surface historic discussions which are buried deep in the post list, but might be relevant to the topic at hand. So I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing if there are old posts on the list. Feedback is always welcome though.

I like the old threads, shows us where we’ve come from, and believe it or not there’s some real gems and stuff to learn from way back there. Something I love doing is searching from oldest, it’s really amazing g to see those people working with what they knew.

I like the old threads and enjoy reading them. The banner about the how old the threads are and that there may be more recent threads could be more obvious judging from the requests for responses from the previous century.

Thanks for your input, and different point of view, and receptivity to feedback.
(Just throwing out some ideas) ■ Possibly reserve a spot or two for most recent <5 yrs.. ■ Or even a couple spots for each decade - of which could bring more attention to the Blasts from the Past, if titled like that or something.
Anyways just something I had noticed for while now and not big issue at all.
.also thank you for all the hard work you've done to bring this place to where it is and not sale it to the highest bidder

I think its a good idea to rename that "Similar Threads" section. Or just put less than 5 or 4 year old threads in there. And yes, I agree, those threads in there are very old. I like reading some of them on the rare occassion.

What about both. I do like the old threads. Maybe split it ain't half between the standard algorithm and one that weighs recent threads more?
