Tolerance to psychoactive chemicals in general - and a warning

As a new member I'm starting a new thread on the development of tolerance to psychoactive chemicals in general, based on my own experience with several. Existing threads that I viewed all tend to wander off topic & I didn't want my personal experience to get lost in the noise.
Psychoactive chemicals produce their effects by bonding to proteins in the brain called receptors. Like all proteins in the body, these are constantly being replaced. In the brain there are feedback loops that regulate when & how many receptor proteins are needed. When a psychoactive chemical enters the brain, these feedback loops cut back on the number of receptor proteins. This results in the user getting a lesser effect from the same amount of chemical that worked OK a day, week or month before.
The only option is cutting back on usage but the only method that has worked partially for me is abstinence for a month or more.
My experience with 'shrooms was a once only experience which I enjoyed. As a footnote, my much younger wife freaked out. So I have no comments specific to MM tolerance. But my experience with other chemicals has taught me about tolerance.
I used to smoke pot but my pulmonologist told me to stop due to the risk of developing conditions like lung cancer. Pot (medicinal) is legal in my state. I found that the dispensaries sell THC (the active chemical in pot) in capsule form. No prescription needed. So I bought a bunch.
My first experience with about 500 mg got me very stoned. I was actually hallucinating, seeing brightly colored geometric patterns on the ceiling of my darkened BR. A few days later I dropped a larger dose & enjoyed the same experience, though not as intense. So I guessed that my brain had developed tolerance to the doses of THC I had taken. So I knocked off for over a month & dropped a much larger dose (2,500 mg), hoping to compensate for the tolerance I had developed. I got stoned but the colored patterns were not there any more. So I applied the only remedy I had & knocked off THC entirely.
A related experience was with organic mescaline comes with a warning. I had access to a virtually unlimited supply. My younger wife was away on business so I had the house to myself to experiment with this. A mescaline stone lasts 12 hours. The chemical literature that I had read said that a dose of 500 mg was adequate. I had a spatial hallucination where my office desk jumped up at me. Overall my use of mescaline was very interesting but the same dose produced much less interesting hallucinations. I had developed a tolerance after only a few trips. Then I ODed. I had no idea how much I had taken but my brain shut down. I could not count to 2 & had no idea what day of the week it was. And the only option I had was waiting for it to work its way out of my system. This experience was not fun & exposed me to a lot of risks, like falling & needing to call 911. In my town the cops come with ambulance calls & messing with mescaline likely violates some heavy laws. In the ER they would question me & take blood samples where mescaline would be detected. (Footnote: that was 20 years ago & I no longer have access to mescaline).
Developing tolerance is inevitable & the only cure is abstinence for a prolonged period. Trying to cheat this system will only waste your time & money. With THC, my next trip will be next summer: 9 months on the wagon.

LSD creates more tolerance than 2C-B for me, and DMT doesn't build tolerance as far as I can tell.
My tolerance comes back pretty quick. like most of it comes back in a week or two.

Hence why i like oral DMT so much, no tolerance, was able to take it daily/near daily for 4 years straight, best time of my life.
