The instructions were something I found for an easy verm casing....I think they came from the grow section at the shroomery

Kast, the bottom layer of a casing helps to collect water instead of your mycelum being water logged.

Its better that a newbie to casing use a bottom layer to help correct the problem of too much moisture.

The only record I know of from a true "mycologist"/cultivator is in the McKenna bros book where he states that PERLITE is an option to place on the bottom of the casing for drainage. Even with this source, though, I've never heard a word of it spoken again outside of this (Shroomery/Psilocybe) community.
