Human-Tree/plant symbiosis
    #28571906 - 12/06/23 07:08 PM (1 month, 21 days ago)

Do you think that the fact that humans defecate/urinate at the base of trees or plants could be viewed as part of a symbiotic relationship?

1. This provides shelter and privacy from intruders/predators for humans.

2. The ones and twos provide nutrition for the plants.

Or do you just think this is a cooked thought?

Do you mean historically or in modern times?

I'd usually poop by a tree because there's a branch to hang on to for stability. Unless you can squat real well it's harder in an open space.

I do a lot of outdoors work and have pooped in a myriad of scenic environments, just last week I sat over a log and chilled by a creek as the sun rose.

I don't think urine is great for most plant life, maybe some but I'm not sure of specific species that would benefit from the ammonia.

I pooped in an old termite mound once because it was like a throne. It's really always more comfortable with something to hold on to or some edge to poop off.

Can pee anywhere in the forest, heck I've walked in circles pissing for shits n giggles. It's neat sometimes to make a trickling stream in the dirt. Usually it's in the forest because there are eyes on the street.

Pissing on concrete splatters so you really gotto shoot for distance if that's all there is, dirt or grass absorbs it well.

baked,
the falling of feces stops at earth, so the earth is a medium of renewal. same with thee ocean floor but different.
it's like the cake of life.

more biotic than symbiotic.

Very true. I was at work peeing on a plant and had this thought… felt compelled to post it 🤣

That was perhaps a lame joke. I peed in the woods too not too long ago and I saw the stream flowing. It went near my shoe and I was like oh no no no you don't little yellow river.

Quote:

There are three main types of symbiotic relationships: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. In mutualism, both species benefit from the interaction. In commensalism, one species benefits while the other is neither harmed nor benefited. In parasitism, one species benefits at the expense of the other, which is harmed. These relationships illustrate different levels of dependency, with mutualism often representing a high level of dependency and parasitism representing a one-sided dependency.

In answering whether a relationship is symbiotic, I think, the deciding factor is dependency.

Although a tree and a person can benefit one another, they are not usually co-dependent.

Maybe, if the tree was the only source of food or shelter and depended on the human for survival.

There is a scenario where this could happen, but not with a tree.
