Take a spore print by cutting the cap from the stem and placing a cap on a sheet of aluminum foil. The spores should drop in an hour or two. It is sometimes preferable to let the mushroom drop its spores for up to 12 hours to get a good deep print.

- If the mushrooms fruits in cold weather, you might have to let the spores drop in a cold area. The color of the spores is a great help in identifying the mushroom.

- When you are making a spore print it is better to wet the top of the mushroom slightly and/or wet a bowl and place it over the mushroom so the spores are not blown away. This is particularly help if the mushroom is dry or if you live in a dry area.

what is it you are looking for?

i'm assuming active mushroom

prolly p. cubes.

Looks like none i have ever ingested and its a spongy underside not gills so i'm not looking at a cube.

would wait for a more experience shroomer to help ya out but i'm saying dont eat it.

There are plenty of good resources on the main page of the shroomery that will point you into the right direction of what it may actually be.

If it has a sponge-like underside instead of gills, it is a bolete.  There are many boletes that bruise a bluish green, and that confuses alot of hunters.  Not active. don't eat it.  Hope this helps,

Yard Hunter  :mushroom2:

The tube layer under the cap instead of gills, plus the fact that those tubes can be peeled from the cap will tell you that your mushroom is a bolete. Lots of species of boletes bruise blue or green - none of them (at elast in North America) is known to be active. Many are edible, many are poisonous. Blue bruising is one of the common indicators of poisonous boletes (the other is red or orange pores).

For an accurate identification to species we need to start by seeing the stem surface in detail.

Happy mushrooming!
