Long ago in ancient Japan. There was an invasion by Kublai Khan.
There was a lot of death that was visited upon this island. Every now and then, though there were people able to record some of the events, we have historical documents.
There was a story recorded by a man from a small village of fisherman towards the very bottom. What was once a beautiful and lush forest, with a harbor filled with life. Was left of smoldering ruin over the course of just a few hours. The man documenting these events was hiding in a barrel. Watching through the crack. As the village was being ransacked.
From the woods emerged a Ronin. This is a samurai whose master died. So deep is there a loyalty. That they can’t seek another master. They still serve theirs even in death. Every now and then they would be hired. But they could never be trusted ever again. They were someone else’s samurai. In a very real sense they still are. So these were usually very humble and poor men. In his Faded attire. With his chipped old katana. He walked out until he was 300 feet away from the village. He drew his blade. Sat, then lay it in front of him. The Mongols continued their rampage. Until a couple of them managed to notice this loan man with his tattered clothes sitting in this field. One of them decided to try and shoot an arrow. In the blink of an eye, he jumped up. He avoided it, sat back down. Setting his sword down in front of him again. Then he regained his statue like posture closing his eyes once again. The invaders have never seen anything like this. They thought maybe he was suicidal. They thought it was funny. And then one of them decided to go over there and indulge him.
The second that man drew within 3 feet he fell down dead.
Now they didn’t think it was funny. Two or three of them came at him in waves. This went for an hour. Until there was only a handfull of them left. The attackers were terrified. He had fell easily 45 men. After they escaped back into their boats. The villagers wanted to thank this man. They collected everything they had of value still there. And they were going to present it to him as payment. But he was already gone…
It was never about the money.
This story is true. This man inspired the game. The Ghost of Tsushima… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_of_Japan
