Raid On Warehouse Produces Mescaline
One of the largest illicit mescaline laboratories in the nation was uncovered in an East San Rafael warehouse Thursday by a team of federal narcotics agents. San Rafael police reported today. San Rafael Police Detective Roy G. Hendricks. who accompanied 13 federal drug agents in the 8 p.m. raid at 26 Medway Road, unit 12, said the clandestine lab was capable of producing about $180,000 worth of the drug each week. Mescaline is an hallucinogen similar to LSD. Hendricks said the raiders surprised Aloysius G. Juodakis. 36, as he mixed chemicals at the laboratory. Juodakis apparently resided "around the county." according to the detective, living at times in the lab and at a residence on Northern Avenue in Tamalpais Valley. Juodakis, booked into Mann County jail on suspicion of manufacturing the drug, was turned over to federal authorities in San Francisco. U.S. Magistrate Owen W. Woodruff set bail at $10,000. Hendricks said the Medway Road warehouse had been under surveillance for three weeks, after federal narcotics agents traced shipments of chemicals used in manufacture of the drug to the address. Juodakis offered no resistance as raiders burst into the warehouse. He just stood there extremely shocked. .. not saying a word," according to the San Rafael detective. Several hundred pounds of chemicals, test tubes, cauldrons, heating units and other equipment were seized. Hendricks said. Much of the chemical substances seized were chemicals used to manufacture mescaline, but a small quantity of the refined drug also was found, he said. "Federal agents said it was probably the biggest mescaline lab in the country," according to the officer. It was the first large scale mescaline laboratory ever discovered in the state, he added. Hendricks said the lab was similar in many ways to a huge "speed" laboratory discovered in another East San Rafael warehouse last September. That laboratory, capable of producing 200 pounds of methamphetamine weekly, was located less than half mile from the mescaline lab busted Thursday.

Ugh reading this just makes my stomach churn. Can you imagine your just chillin working in there and the storm troopers come busting in? Fucking sickening and over mescaline, like the softest sweetest psychedelic. Bummer!

I agree with all of you. But heck, the bright side is this is the anniversary of him being released from prison. That's something at least. I hope the rest of his life was a happy one. Perhaps he's still alive today. Who knows.

according to the article he was 36 in 74 and 80 when he was released in 81. I think they grabbed the wrong inmate possibly? or was the article wrong. he'd be 108 if he was 80 at his release.
there is an 82 yr old Aloysius G. Juodaki in newburry CA, but if he was 36 in 74 that seems to be about perfect. looks like he's still alive, would be cool to get his number.

It's him. They weren't saying he was 80 something when he was released. They're saying his age is 83, as of 2020.

WOah! Crazy, this happened a few blocks away from where I currently live. This dude was working with a big group of people back then who were the first to bring back san pedro from south america and start growing them everywhere in the bay area. They're true old school hippie types.
I wonder what happened to him.

That's interesting that you live near where his lab was. How do you know that about him? Today is the 40th anniversary of his release, BTW.

Fun fact: This location is now a Boost Mobile lol. And people ask why I would rather live in the 70s...
mescaline factory, or boost mobile store? I'll take the mescalin factory.

You're right! I can't believe Boost Mobile still exists. Too funny. Somebody call them and tell them.
