Cutting out a cancer spot in cacti...???

Just wondering how a San Pedro cutting might handle the cutting out of some "cancer" or rot. From shipping, 2 of my cutting had little black puncture marks (3 total)..looked like a cig burn. I planted them and watched carefully to see if they spread. Of the 3 punture spots, 2 scared over and healed up, while the 3rd grew slightly and discolored around it. It's about the size of a dime and I was thinking of just cutting the entire section out. Has anyone done this?
