religion and politics during the holidays

Feel free to disagree with this, but I couldn't help but think something. "If people are not discussing politics and religion with the people in their family, whom would ideally argue in good faith for a mutual, beneficial resolution, then when are they going to talk about it? Many people simply don't get together enough to have group conversations about their ultimate nature and the state of affairs concerning their community and government. How is a dialectic possible if one's conceptions do not have weight with regard to their friends and loved ones?
My point is... If people are too afraid to even discuss politics or religion with their closest friends and families... Where are they getting their information? Doesn't this seem like it could lead to a potentially worse and more uncomfortable state of affairs in the community than having to face disagreement and argument, and to expend energy for a resolution?
Just my two cents. I'm not saying everyone is not doing this or avoiding these conversations, but I have heard more than a few people (more than usual) say they categorically do not talk politics or religion when their family gets together. Are tensions that high?
If not with your family then with whom? I could take this to other places, but I'll leave it open. What are your thoughts? No judgment here.

We introduced blood oranges to my grandson who is 3 He announced "it is so tasty" then he said "and it's so juicy" and he added "and it's so sweet"
to hell with politics and religion I say, during the holidays taste your food like a three year old and enjoy life.
but after a whisky and dessert, by all means stir the pot - but let the kids go to bed first.

true. Be careful about the whiskey though. My family are alcoholics so you know lmao, and there's always makers mark by the eggnog. I'll be just with my hub a dub dub this christmas and new years. My family can hold their liquor, but it can make things worse. I'm the type to put thc in the brownie mix so it's probably a good thing I'm not going this year lol. Everyone may be crashed out on the couch. hah. Stoner holiday sounds just as fun, though obviously brandy milk punch is pretty good if you ask me

I just finished slurping a glass 3/4 full of jelled beef bone broth and 1/4 Monkey Shoulder blended whisky - coming down from 2g APE.
If I have to have alcohol, let it be Monkey Shoulder or fuggetaboudit.

wuuuuh rofl. Never have tried that. My favorite drink is tanqueray gin, lime juice with the chunks, crushed ice and tonic water with quinine (not diet!). my favorite part is biting the tiny little pieces of lime that float around although I don't do much drinking anymore. for a while at a time was just cutting a lime into 4ths and taking hefty shots. Tanqueray with lime is just very tasty to me, and the tonic really does it good. not so great for your teeth however lol. or your stomach hah

I just recently almost bought a bottle of tanqueray lime gin. I'd never seen it. Nahh. I used to mix speed, gin, weed, and xanax all at the same time. I'm the type that if i start buying liquor then im going to take it all the fucking way lol

I found the perfect balance, and I remember one time I took about 200mg of adderall, over like 18 hours, splitting the 30mg ir pills and taking half at a time. let it kick in, drink. let those even out... smoke a big blunt. take more addy. wait. drink another shot. take more addy. smoke some reefer. more addy. another shot. annd on and on and on. until i have to take a hefty dose of xanax and crash out for 24 hours

I guess not just on the holidays then. Excessive even.
They are warning us, even one ounce of hard stuff is too much - due to aldehyde mutagenesis in the liver.
you realize this is religion and politics, and already it is not for family consumption. too close to confession, and that is too close to crucifixion. so I'm puttin a bow on it and waiting.

I dislike talking about politics or religion or many things with most people because they appear to not be free to think, instead stuck to preconceptions and filtering their thoughts through preconception
therefore there are inumarable obstacles to communication.

huh? I am geniune. it seems to me your words probably mean one of two things, (words: "thinks like that"")
my post had two lines of thinking, my thinking, and and a subset of my thinking, the thinking of "most people"
so im not sure if you are talking about everyone thinking like me, or most people

A society that could speak (with respect) about these things without fights and anger entering the conversation would be a much better society then the one we currently have.
I also believe that life would be better for all involved.

my theory is the cause is indepence from the natural environment through technology. Prior to this culture adapted humans to the environment. Now humans can create their own environments, so culture is no longer limited to the environmental constraints, we can head out and create in any direction
so now we argue about the direction. culture is going through like an extinction and proliferation event. all kinds of crazies coming up with stuff, even us in this little isolated community, creating another meme zone. the proliferation of thought species including group identity leads to competition.
