ID x2 in EU West * 1
    #28561668 - 11/30/23 04:20 AM (1 month, 28 days ago)

Has been raining a lot here recently & I noticed an elevated plateaux amongst the trees during a drive, decided to climb it with the hopes of finding something & there were loooads of these.

The first one growing out of mossy ground mostly and the second out of dead wood, again, mostly.

These were smaller specimens compared to others.

Thanks so much for any help

No idea what your first one is... but the second one looks suspiciously like a Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca to me... (aka, false Chanterelle). Out in the field, I can tell immediately... real chanterelles are rubbery feeling. With a photo it's a little harder, but those do look like gills rather than veins to me.. and the cap velvety rather than smooth.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

First one is maybe Hebeloma. Nothing close to Psilocybe in any case.

Wider one does look like false Chanterelle. Toxic (but not usually fatal), so don't eat it.

The one that looks Psily looks that way because it's an LBM (little brown mushroom). Probably 50 percent of all species of mushrooms look a lot like this:

LBM is not a psilo term, that's a term used by edible mushroom hunters in general.

If it doesn't have brownish spores, gills, and doesn't bruise blue, it's not psilo.

a few non-active mushrooms bruise blue, but the non-active ones either don't have gills, or don't have brownish spores.

If you ever eat wild mushrooms with a positive ID, only eat a very tiny bit and wait a few hours, see if you get stomach ache. That way if they're toxic, you don't get much toxin.

Additionally, if you do find psilos growing on / near wood, search "woodlovers paralysis" before eating them.

Like others here I'm no expert but what I said in this post is true.
