question about semi-automated terrarium
    #2856179 - 07/04/04 01:44 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

my foaf built a fine semi-automated terrarium using the tek in the shroomery's advanced techniques section, and he was wondering if it would harm his fully colonized/birthed mycobag and casing (both of which appear to be pinning, but with only one or two primordia forming presently) to turn the setup off for a day or two while he's away.

the setup basically includes an air pump, water heater (main concern, since the level of water would decrease below the suggested level for this particular heater, which may be a fire hazard or potentially damaging to the heater itself), aquarium with perlite for humidity, and regular old flourescent hood lights.

so.. would turning it off hurt the casing or block of mycelium birthed from the mycobag? the temp would drop from mid/high 70s to upper 60s and extremely low 70s.. humidity might drop too since the heater wouldn't be on..

Try putting the lights real close (if they arn't already) and shut off just the heater and see what happens.

will-do, thanks a lot for the input..

he just built his new terrarium 2 nights ago and this morning he found pins and MUCH better growth!
before, he had it all in a big rubbermaid container with perlite for humidity and .. well.. that's about it..  no wonder it's doing better.
