Phobia has worsened since taking shrooms.

Starting taking shrooms early this year for anxiety/depression. It was really great for awhile but now I have noticed pronounced worsening of my specific phobia which is fear of being trapped.(cleithrophobia) It isn’t the mushrooms that started my phobia since I had a few episodes previous to taking them. A few years ago I was locked inside of a hotel bathroom for an hour because the door handle was broken from inside. I also experienced the feeling during an mri and recently flying in an airplane. I was subscribed some anxiety medication and I was able to get through a ct exam the other day. But for the first time ever I felt the panic setting in on the drive over to the clinic. That freaked me out because I never thought I would feel that way in a car. Opening the windows certainly helped and I took my medicine after arriving at the clinic so I was fine the rest of the day.
I just wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience where anxiety has increased while taking shrooms. I should say that I have been taking them every week so perhaps that could be the issue? I am going to stop taking them for a good period of time to see if the symptoms subside so hopefully that will fix it. Anyway I always looked forward to my weekly ‘sessions’ but will have to forego for a bit to see what is going on with me.

I am guessing you are having a rebound effect from the medication. Is it a benzodiazepine you were prescribed?

Hi, I don't know how you consume or what protocol you follow, but I can say in relation to my experience with mini-doses (0.3g every other day) that my panic attacks and social anxiety noticeably worsened. That's why I stopped taking them for a while and then resumed with macro-doses (which improved my symptoms of depression and anxiety without negative effects other than an occasional bad trip).. Around a year after trying mini doses, I started micro-dosing (0.05g daily) and didn't have negative effects, nor did I notice improvements. My recommendation would be to take a break and, after one or two months, if you can tolerate it in relation to any depression and anxiety symptoms that may appear during this period, try a medium macro-dose of 2 or 3g. I have experienced macro-doses of 2g while also consuming benzodiazepines and had satisfactory results in the following days without any noticeable mystical experience.
