Hydrogel Usage
    #2855896 - 07/04/04 11:04 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hi;
Have you got any idea about using hydrogel?
They keep water very well and they have many nutrients.
It is just an idea, what about making a hydrogel jar and inject spores in it?

According to this manufacturer:

http://www.finncorp.com/additivesystems.htm
HydroGel
HydroGel is a polymer that is able to store water and nutrients up to 500% its own size and weight. Once HydroGel releases its stored moisture and nutrients to the root system, it will replenish itself with the next rainfall or irrigation. HydroGel comes in two types of polymers: HydroGelB for turf related soils, and HydroGelC for plants, shrubs, and trees.

This seems like to me one of those things that are good for plants but wouldnt help fungi...remember the nutrients required are not the same. Seems that its behavior might be unpredictable as well, but if you ever try it id be curious to see how that might turn out.

You can use that for a casing layer, but it isn't biodegradable nor reusable.
