I found this movie to be odd. It felt like it was a college movie. The acting was terrible in it. They used odd choices of sound effects. The whole thing felt like it was trying to be very upfront about it. But at the same time it seemed like it wanted you to find it cheeky and humorous.
I don’t know how they managed to ruin both vibes. But I didn’t feel like it was funny. And I didn’t feel like it was serious. It managed to be neither.
Literally, the most enjoyable part of the entire movie. Is Kelsey Grammer as a gangster smoking cigars talking shit.
They should’ve had at least an extra 30 minutes of him just being Fraser the gangster. Because that was the best part. Watching him bitch about blood getting into his terra-cotta. Was genuinely hilarious.
Everything else just kind of fell flat.
Not totally unenjoyable. But definitely not worth re-watching.

I never liked Kelsey Grammar in anything (liked Lilith on Cheers). Also couldn't stand Niles either on that show, whatever it was called, but the Niles guy was absolutely great appearing in one episode of Titus. If I run into this movie will fast forward to Frasier the gangster.

No worries man. I think its important to take personal criticism once in awhile, to build resistence to even more intense criticisms. The world can be a cruel place!

Le Mans(1971)- 10/10

It's a shame I did'nt have any crab meat available to me this weekend. I used to have this tradition wherein I would eat imitation crab meat whenever I would watch this absolute gem ov a movie. No matter though, I got to show it to my BF for his first time watching it. He loved it ov course.
Much like Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny, it seems that some ov my favorite films have little dialogue. I think Le Mans goes something like 17 minutes before a single word is spoken. A plot or anything resembling traditional acting? Nah, Le Mans does'nt need it. The visceral quality ov this movie is truly something to behold! The sounds ov the cars, the iconic shots, the atmosphere legit race car driver Steve Mcqueen evokes, mmmph! What a true gem ov a film!
Ernest Hemmingway said something along the lines ov "there's only 3 sports: race car driving, bullfighting and mountaineering; the rest are just games". You can make a good film on something like football but anything surrounding the actual gameplay requires a strong script. With a movie that covers a sport wherein the potential immediacy ov death is ever present, however, the script is superfluous. 1966's Grand Prix is an excellent racing film but there's a strong storyline that surrounds the film. Le Mans, however, is the pure essence ov racing minimalistically distilled, any unnecessary component left amongst the dregs ov its manufacture.
Many people are'nt going to get it. I imagine someone like a valley girl abandoning it before the first word is even spoken. But for those with the open-mindedness to care, the howl ov that 917 at full tilt, the eyes ov the few human characters in the film, the grit n' grime ov true sport that resonates at viscera, all strike a chord that connect directly to soul.
Cheers yon masters ov motoring, a toast ov champagne for the glory and pain!

Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977)

Recently single woman in swinging 70s nyc meeting a series of dangerous men for sexual encounters, while maintaining her image as teacher of deaf kids by day. Harrowing, you always hear about the sexual revolution and how free everyone is, you never see the other side, if you are sensitive that free love scene can destroy you. 10/10 a masterpiece. Early appearances of Tom Berenger and and Richard Gere.

Rebel Moon(2023)- 6.5/10

Visually cool? Yes. A total Star Wars ripoff with a sprinkle ov Avatar thrown in for measure? Also yes. As Paul Harrell would say, "you be the judge".

RIP Diego the sea lion 2009-2023

Whiplash (2014) 10/10. Even more intense.

I loved Talk to Me and the ending was killer.

Just watched On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) All the other 60s and 70s bond movies have Connery or Moore but this one has George Lazenby in his only foray into the Bond role. He was great and they offered him big money to come back but he said fuck it and grew long hair instead. Anyway it surprised me how psychedelic it was. Telly Savalas is great villain always petting a kitty

Call me by your name(2017)- 9/10

I'd nearly given up on modern gay film. The HIV crisis was horrific but the immediacy ov death sure made for some fantastic film in its pre-protese heyday with the likes ov Jarman, Araki and such. I did'nt think a far more simple and innocent tear jerker would get to me but this one did very well. Atmosphere and the well acted sense ov repressed gay teenage angst did me in. A classic story with passion leading to the inevitable cataclysm but a very well played one at that, with fine detail work. Plus, it's a damn good movie for the admirer ov the male foot and armpit as well lol! My partner and I picked movies to show each other this weekend, I Tusk and him this one. And as diabolically different these two movies are, amusement was abound in this fine weekend ov movie watching!

Tusk- Arf arf arf! No need for ratings, hahaha, if ya get it ya get it!!!!

Nice! I too, was surprised by Elvira's flicks. I love her sass & sarcasm.

Last movie I saw was "Hard times" with Charles Bronson. Oldie but Goldie. 8/10. Strother Martin is always a treat- amazing character actor.

Just watched Elvira Mistress of the Dark again today actually, with one of my sons.  He liked it as well.

She reminds me of Groucho Marx, who is one of my all time favorites.

"nice jacket... who shot the couch?"  I love it.
