Argentina's new president.

I'm here to watch the shitshow unravel only time will tell how the story goes.
From extinguishing the central bank to gutting half of government departments.
What a show this could be! Or shitshow, but yknow, we'll see.

As such, he plans to extinguish the Central Bank.
A self-described “anarcho-capitalist,” Milei’s libertarianism was a novelty for Argentina. He has spoken in favor of loosening the country’s labor laws and promoted a vision of starkly smaller government to boost economic growth.
That entails eliminating half of the government ministries, including health and education. As a symbol of the deep cuts he champions, he has at times campaigned with a revving chainsaw in hand.

Chainsaw in hand, ‘anarcho-capitalist’ Javier Milei upends Argentina’s politics
His legions of fans call him “the crazy” and “the wig” due to his ferocity and unruly mop of hair, while he refers to himself as “the lion.” He thinks sex education is a Marxist plot to destroy the family, views his cloned mastiffs as his “children with four paws” and has raised the possibility people should be allowed to sell their own vital organs. He is Javier Milei, Argentina’s next president.

Pretty sure getting rid of the national bank and switching to USD will make all Argentinian pesos(?) worthless overnight.
I guess that's not much of a change for a country with ~200% inflation over the past year, but...it's definitely an interesting strategy. Heck, the announcement itself will lead to basically infinite inflation.

I saw people getting excited over him but he's super pro-US/Israel and wants to move away from BRICS, and turn away from Russia/China. So in other words, he's an idiot. Siding with an empire during its decline does not a smart man make.
He's right about the central banks, but if his foreign policy is stupid then so will be his administration.

Who wouldn't want to move away from BRICS? That's a long hold, with incredible risk. He is looking to do something quickly.....he reminds me of a wrestling manager from the WWF.

There is a lot of people who focus on the fascist alliance between the state and capital and call it "far left", trying to tie it into the workers seizing the means of production.
Anarcho capitalism is basically Randian libertarianism with the same attempt to make it sound leftist.
When capitalism fails, it's because it's secretly communist. Not because capitalism fails.

I love this whole mentality that the US and Europe are bad and an evil empire in decline, and Russia and China are good and rising and definitely not waging any wars to take over other countries.

In an actual conflict, I suspect their military value would be mostly limited because you'd just bomb them into oblivion. But if you want to control all the shipping and the ocean around there, then it would make sense.
I think that's their real goal, to seize all of what they call the "south china sea" so they can control 100% of the shipping through there. It's one of the most active shipping lanes in the world, with most of the commerce from most asian countries going through there, so a lot of money is involved. Not to mention the massive amount of fishing that happens there.
In the process, they'd also be able to control a number of asian countries by controlling most of their economic activity. Vietnam, for example, has a huge amount to lose because china claims 100% of the ocean off their coast. So anything Vietnam wants to ship, they'd have to go through China and in the process China would gain control over them.

Their military value is entirely limited to SAM sites. Their economic value is immense, however, expanding the borders of Chinese waters significantly. Having that 50 mile economic control zone before international waters starts basically gives China control of the local shipping.

Right Wing Death Squads were the vanguard of the anticommunist forces in the 1980s civil wars in Central America. But they got a bad name leading congress to defund the Contras fighting the Marxist Sandinistas in Nicaragua. Reagan violated it and had the CIA heroin dealing to replace the funding. Reagan had been super popular but was now lame duck and senile. So he and VP Bush beat the rap and everyone under them got indicted. Publicity about the Death Squads also compelled the U.S. to help install a centrist in El Salvador. That must have cost a bunch because it was expected to be contest between the communist leader and Roberto D'Aubuisson, who tortured leftists, and more likely peasants caught up in, with a blowtorch.
Those countries were super poor, except the right represented the ten or so families that owned all the land.
Are modern Death Squads operating in countries above peasant level, say in Eastern Europe. Whose the targets? guessing immigrants and reform leaders. Are the extreme rightists trying to preserve their position or soldiers for the rich, maybe both.

I think the purpose of using RWDS language in modern politics is simply to instill fear in the population. Specifically, fear of speaking out against the ten or so families that own the government and would like to do what they want.

I had to study US vs USSR proxy wars in Latin America and let's just say neither side was good. Both the fascist government juntas and the communist guerrilla fighters regularly killed civilians and committed all kinds of war crimes. And in most cases if not all the cases (few that they may have been) when the communists won things just devolved into pretty much a fascist government like the one, they had been fighting. only with different mottos and shit...

Yeah, except the communists were generally made up of displaced locals, while the fascists were US-backed mercenaries.
And when the communists took power, the reason it became fascism is because the US-backed mercenaries shot all the communists and took power back.
That was basically Iran-Contra in a nutshell. Congress said Reagan couldn't arm fascist mercenaries in...Nicaragua or some shit? So Reagan sold guns to Iran (also illegal) because he had contacts in Iran from back when he was running for president, when he paid off the Iranians to not release the hostages until after the election, and then he used the money from illegally selling guns to his illegal contacts in Iran to buy guns for the fascist mercenaries anyway.

Yeah, other than Cuba the Latin American left wasn't tight enough with USSR to be considered satellites. Reagan argued that the Sandinistas were, but he lost the argument.
Let's not forget the drug smuggling in Iran-Contra.

I would argue that's not exactly the case. Both the fascists and the communists were backed by foreign governments. both were displaced (as in the civilians not those in power). i feel people give the communists/leftists a little too much leeway in terms of their morality. as one could argue they are the ones who created the gangs/cartels. that said it could also be argued that the right/US/CIA funded the gangs/cartels. It's basically two corrupt groups working in tandem while pretending they are fighting each other.

Lol what? The communists were formed entirely of rebel groups resisting various military dictatorships that were established either by the US or Europe in the early part of the 20th century. The only foreign power backing the communists was, at one time or another, Cuba. Because they all worked together to overthrow capitalist and fascist regimes across the continent.

The victim was left fighting for his life after his assailants inserted a live fish into his rectum as he lay unconscious and bleeding. It seems the motive for the attack was the victim's loud music which woke the baby of one of his attackers. Local police were overheard saying that the victim " probably deserved it, honestly". We'll update you further as we uncover the details of this fairly reasonable attack. Back to you Deborah.
I dunno... I found this...
It reminded me of this..

Yeah the empire is pretty bad but the rebels killed a bunch of innocent workers on the Death Star so the morals are pretty murky.
How would there be innocents on the death star?

Some of the janitors and food service people on the Death Star were, surely, just working to feed their family.
Loss of people work for organisations with crooked ethics, pay and conditions. Doesn’t make the workers terrible for doing so. Desperate maybe.
Anyhow we should hold a moments silence for the janitors on the Death Star.
Did you see how clean that place was? Not a smattering of dust. Good people. Such a shame.

So janitors on a nuclear sub while that sub is engaged in a combat mission count as innocents? By that logic, a getaway driver for a murder is innocent

He said the janitor... not the captain..

Oh man enlil, did you think I was making anything but a quaint joke? I’m talking about the Death Star and a fictional empire (which, if you followed Star Wars “lore”, would know that the empire was filled with subjugated peoples, races. Many of them didn’t like the empire and some worked under pain of death for other friends or family imprisoned by said empire), you’re talking about nuclear submarines.
But ya know what? Yeah I do think there were innocent people on the Death Star.
Particularly any janitors working in appalling conditions under the threat of laser blasters.
*lights candle in their honour*
Oh the horror of it all.
But hey, Argentina and such…

Everyone on the death star participated in mass murder. There's no justification for that.

Parts of the death star were built by slaves. Presumably, a number of slaves were still employed on the death star. They didn't have a choice.

Is this kind of like saying that because the people voted for Milei, that the outcome inevitably is what it is?
Because to an extent I get it, he was pretty open about what he intended to do, he didn't hide that he wanted to turn the nation inside out, I mean he ran on chainsawing the place up..
While it's important to bring up that the people should've known what they were voting for, and shouldn't expect any less, or be surprised to get screwed over, Milei was voted in because the alternative was more of the same and many decided to take the chance on change, even in a worse direction. Even if that was misplaced hope for change because the direction wasn't good, I still don't think the blame can solely be put on the people, as on the surface Milei might have been made to look appealing when advertised by the media. The old guard, the legacy media, the ones that defend to no end the system that is fucking people over, starts telling the people they need to vote for them or else? Or else what? More of the same shit?
Look, I think we can blame the media literacy of many voters for sure, they should've known what they were voting for, but you can also blame the illeterate media for resonating nothing but the status quo.
The status quo isn't popular, even if it's bullshit, anyone coming in claiming to want to chainsaw the status quo sounds more appealing than someone telling you the status quo is fine, because in the end, telling someone the status quo is fine is a straight up lie, but telling someone you'll cut the status quo up and then doing a 180 afterwards and sucking up to it is a lie after the fact.
I think in the realm of politics it's more effective in the long term to betray your voters than to lie to them upfront is all I'm saying.

I was wondering how the Argentina thread got all these posts since yesterday.
For me the whole empire had it's one and only peak when the Carrie Fisher type character had bagels glued on the side of her head in Hardware Wars.

There's gangrene on your toes, one person tells you it's not there, the other says it is there and he's going to remove it once you vote him in.
You vote the second guy in and he cuts off your nose instead, the second guy wins, and your toes still have gangrene, but now you have no nose either.
