If anyone has any tips about hunting actives in coastal dunes LMK...Not asking for spots, I'm mostly just curious if they're associated with a particular plant/habitat or zone within the dunes? I've heard "they're in the lupins", and they're in the ice-plants, and in the clumps of dune grass.

.

I haven’t hunted dunes up there but yeah I’ve heard lupin and also under blackberry bramble (it’s leaves and dead branches are good food sources for the cyans)

Further north when hunting Azzies I seem to always have best luck right at the transition zone between tree cover and pure dune grass.

Checked a few SF spots mostly still very dry. Found a couple in shady wet areas.

I’ve had some pretty good success but it’s all about micro climates and ground cover so far.  I’m done hunting until the rain starts again.

I went back to check the status of my Allenii patch from 2 days ago.  Here’s what that 75 pin patch looks like now:

Nice shovel technique?  This was 2nd year in a row for that patch but it’s done.  No worries though.    Still got about 200g fresh mixed cyan/allenii  and pretty stoked about my early season hauls.  Gonna sample it this weekend.

I’m looking forward to the season peak.  Happy hunting everyone!

It looked pretty surgical.  Quite possible it’s just been moved and will live on.  But that flush was really nice and I doubt they will survive the move.

I typically find cyans so I get thrilled when some allenii grace me! (North Bay)

Nice allenii.  I'm here in north bay too, but not doing any serious hunting.  I still managed to find what looks like active pans.  Also found this guy on a short hike yesterday.  Hard to tell from this distance shot but this amanita was the size of a large hat.

Sacramento is on the board. Checked my two best patches last week and only a few pins were up looks like they’ve all aborted now. I decided to check some new spots. Found this giant allenii patch at the first location I went to. Many had dried out but there was a ton of pinning still happening so hopefully some irrigation will help them along.

Wow, nice patch!  Definitely looks like one of those familiar patches I've seen posted over the years from the central valley.

Killer patch distancesocial. Stoked to see y'all finding during this dry spell!

Last week's leaf tek served me well this morning. Most other patches were bone dry.

Martinez, earlier today. Had a hunch about this area near the delta—lots of public parks, condos, apartments, county administration buildings, woodchips everywhere, but not much irrigation.

Found a withering patch of cyans in the undergrowth mostly buried under oak leaves AND one colossal cap that was perfectly ripe:

Had a pretty good day here in SF.

Here's my hunting partner:

Found this lovely cyan patch almost immediately:

And then found a pretty decent allenii flush but no insitu pics.

The haul (allenii in front, cyans in the rear):

2 big patches within minutes of hunting.  And then the slow trickle of lesser but still appreciated finds.

I guess you don't really need a lot of rain, just need the right micro climate.

These were all from the same general area I've been hunting this season.  I kinda think this could be one of those neighborhoods where Alan used to live.  I certainly think somebody spread the love over there.  I'm doing my part too.

Checked 4 old patches the other day, No signs of life. Psilocybes at least. I'm gonna poke around at some new spots this weekend!

Most of my spots are barren too.  I did manage to find these cyans complete with slug attached.

They are out there in shady spots with ground cover.
