I don’t mind the taste. Not award winning, but I’ve tasted far grosser shit from natural food stores.

Contra Costa County is fruiting now too!  Found some Allenii in an irrigated flower garden yesterday before the rain started. Lots of pins in this patch so the rain today will help…very little shade here and some mature fruits already dehydrating and bluing in the sun and wind—a few miles away i found a tiny patch in some ankle/shin high grass where the shade and dew help the fruits grow much larger.

If you see a guy with his head down staring at his phone over there in the wood chips and shrubbery, he might not *actually* be looking at his phone — just using it as a foraging foil — happy hunting every body!

Tiny patch in Oakland in a vast area with a TON of wood chips and manicured landscaping—was a mixed bag to only find the one flush… i grabbed some mycelium and spread it in nearby areas, seems like the best way to increase future prospects?

Went back to the first place I ever found actives in SF (back in November 2021) on the hunch that it might fruit early every year and found a couple of small Allenii.

Seems like out of all the patches I’ve found (which is probably around 8-10) only maybe half fruit consistently from one year to the next—not sure what’s up with that—some places change so much from one year to the next: less irrigation, variations in weather, inconsistent landscaping (wood chips completely decomposing), etc—so recently I’ve been more proactive about spreading little chunks of mycelium in good habitats.

I do love finding the same spot fruiting years after year—feels like bumping into an old friend ~~

The south bay and Santa Cruz area is alive and well. I made some rounds yesterday and about 80% of my patches were producing strong. Tons of pins out there, allenii and cyanescens. Even a few patches that haven't produced in a year or two were fruiting.
I didn't take many photos, but this particular spot in San Jose was a nice surprise. I originally found a small handful here this time last year, then it got relandscaped with new chips shortly after. Now it's booming.

On a side note, a good portion of the allenii I picked up yesterday had pronounced umbo's as well. I didn't take photos, but they resembled those that Dandurn777 posted. Azure-esque, but likely cyan mutations.

Very stoked to see everyone's finds!

Y'all have some good looking patches boomin'!

About 3 weeks ago I found one small patch of cyans in a backyard of a customers place I was working at. That was a cool surprise for the day.

In my area (Humboldt) the fungi in general are poppin' everywhere, it's been much wetter this fall so far compared to last time around. I've kept an eye out for actives when I'm out & about but haven't found anything else yet.

I'd like to find some cyans in the dunes, it'd be cool to find 'em growing in a natural/wild environment like that. I took a stroll around the dunes recently and that's such a different habitat/setting compared to urban hunting, I totally had to re-calibrate my eyes & approach to hunting lol. Generally though I was checking out areas that were shaded, moist, and looked to have accumulated detritus/woody debris.

If anyone has any tips about hunting actives in coastal dunes LMK...Not asking for spots, I'm mostly just curious if they're associated with a particular plant/habitat or zone within the dunes? I've heard "they're in the lupins", and they're in the ice-plants, and in the clumps of dune grass.

Damn, nice allenii patch myco!  I've been out again.

Found this lone cyan pin in a place I found a bunch 2 years ago in GG park:

That's the only one I've seen in the park so far.

Also found a decent size flush of Allenii, but given what the weather looks like I bet the majority of it aborts pretty soon.

And more cyans out and about:

I think a patch will last a good 2 years at best unless carefully maintained

Definitely. Went out today and found a couple Allenii in the shaggy grass, soaking up the dew and flourishing shade. Everything else in the woodchips is drying out real quick.

A few days ago i found a decent sized patch in a flower garden—i had my eye on the forecast: a day of rain followed by abundant sun and warmer temps. SO, i started covering the healthiest pins with rose petals, like little umbrellas overhead. Three days later, the fruits with shade were way bigger than the uncovered ones. I had to peel the petals off as they dried onto the caps like paper mâché:
