Wild Xico(center) throwing out more fruits, and on either side some Captain Future genetics. The CF line is giving some wild clusters with large fruits, but no spores. The Xico drops spores readily:

Elpico is fruiting them (xico) with some different shapes going on, reminds me of the earlier grows where the "semperviva" name was more common and people thought it was a variety of hoogshagenii.
My current thinking is sure, conditions matter a lot, but this could be a fun genetics experiment and new collections really matter, in general, for any species that is cultivated and we're looking for different characteristics. Like how tamps were all from a single collection for a long time, but then new finds reinvigorated interest and the available gene pool.

I thought hoogs and semps are the same thing, the man I've received semps print from signed up as Sempervivum var. Hoogshagenii. I'm confused now, so what is correct?

My understanding is that it was originally thought to be Ps hoogshagenii var semperviva. Then I think Alan said they were not hoogshagenii, but instead Ps subtropicalis. I can't point to a reference at the moment but it might be worth digging that discussion up.

Putting Xico to agar this weekend.
I think I have enough clean myc to T1 Valdivia too. It's shredding the agar even with half of Chile living on that plate. It's just plain outrunning everything.

You people are fast lol. Yeah, it was Ps Hoogshagenii var Semperviva and has been reclassified as Subtropicalis. Ps Hoogshagenii is different.

A single syllable 'semp' is distinctive and rolls off the tongue easier than something like 'subtrop', plus there's a bit of name collision with subaeruginosa (and substrate) if you shorten to just 'sub'.
Semp makes sense for a colloquial name, forever attaching the original confusion to the namesake.
These are some of my favorite mushrooms, without a doubt.

I like saying Viva's. Less spit potential.
Sounds like I'll be working with the Hoogshagenii again soon.

I had it several years ago but the spores weren't viable. I've never seen anyone fruit it.. but I'm gonna. Along with a few other difficult species.

 Psilocybe Subtropicalis YT T1 G2A day 5
Psilocybe Subtropicalis SL T2 MS day 5
Trying to figure out how to get a decent agar pic in this house again. Been a while and crappy lighting for pictures. Seems my old phone works better. It's a good chance for some comparisons though. Some difference between the two sources already. The SL reminds me more of back in the day. Could simply be the agar though. YT is on MEA and SL is on lumpy PDA.

I like using rake light by placing a torch at the top right corner of the plate. It brings out the surface texture of the mycelium.

Well all 6 Shoeboxes have officially pinned. Only a couple pins in the last 2 but they started pinning at 15 days S2B. Started 6 more jars of the second spore plate 2 days ago.
First 2 pics are in my Martha tent second 2 are in a water tub with bubbler. Trying to see what they like better.
I see what look to be a couple of aborts in the first tub (3 with really dark caps). Any idea why? Should I cut them out? If so are they edible if dried? Also any guess on how much longer first tub has to go. they not very tall compared to other people's grows I have seen.

Those are fat! Yeah I'd cut the aborts out and dry them now. Nice work!

Slightly better pics. Used an under cabinet light this time and the phone with a better camera. Really put some definition on that agar lump. Thanks Baba!!

Got the print from Rosco so should be the same. Just did what Rosco suggested nothing more nothing less. Spawned 3:1 in pasteurized Coir (CV added when I mix too wet) and cased with pasteurized peat/verm/lime casing. I used Rosco's dehydrator pasteurization tek. I mist them 2x a day and they seem to love it. The ones in the water tub do seem to be getting taller/skinnier than the ones in the tent though
I should add these are also all MS runs and not from clones. In fact the first tub and 1 of the others are actually spore plate agar as the spore plates were clean.

@rockinrobot That is crazy to see the speed and morphological differences! This is the first time I'm seeing semp fruits that look so chunky, they look great though imho!
My Roscoe print is slower than my Melgos, but my Melgos are going awfully slow too. I'm just starting to get necks popping out of eggs on Melgo, and Roscoe is showing a handful of eggs.
Mine too, really seem to like to be misted regularly and the casing kept wet it seems.
I'm still of the belief that the slow and fast lineages are contained within all semp cultures, but I'm speculating pretty hard. I do spike all my coir with a calcium addition and a pinch of activated charcoal. Maybe the carbon source is making them think more nutes? Too early too tell imho.
Xico is doing so good after a shake and will most likely spawn before the end of the month. I am stupid excited for that one. Especially after seeing elpico's fruits!

Funny to hear someone say these are speedy. I spawned 2 tubs of Machine Elf Cubes same day and both of them already have their first flush dried. These seem to have at LEAST another 2 weeks on that first tub
