Virtual & Augmented Reality - Early looks at photorealistic Kodak Avatars with Meta 4

I enjoy Lex Fridman interviews, and just happened to watch this one, recorded about a month ago, where he speaks with Mark Zuckerberg of Meta. The video shows their experience VR meeting from separate locations, using Meta's very impressive "Kodak Avatars" which are remarkably realistic. This type of experience isn't yet available to the masses, as you have to undertake an extensive scanning process with specialized hardware and software in order to construct your avatar currently. However it is reasonable to assume that this experience will be available to the public in not too long. In fact, in the following example, they are using hardware that is already available, the Quest Pro VR headset.
Imagine how impressive and meaningful this experience will be, the many ways it can change the ways in which we interact with technology and the "real" world around us; how the distinction or the line between the technologically imposed and the physical aspects of our world are going to get very blurry. It's seeming ever more clear to me that machines are the next major evolutionary step of matter (and life) on this planet. In conjunction with the potential for yet-to-manifest sentient artificial intelligence, humanity is likely to be living with, and in various ways merging with, an entirely new life form!
Of course, I'm taking the discussion a bit beyond the scope of what this particular interview is focused on, but I think if you watch this, and if you have interacted with or have been witnessing the rapid evolution of AI, your thoughts may meander into similar territory.

A few excerpts from the interview below...
Quote:
Lex: It feels like the future. This is truly, truly incredible. I just wanted to take it in. I’m still getting used to it. It’s you, it’s really you, but you’re not here with me. You’re there wearing a headset and I’m wearing a headset. It’s really, really incredible.
Mark: This gets to the core of what the vision around virtual and augmented reality is, of delivering a sense of presence as if you’re there together no matter where you actually are in the world. This experience I think is a good embodiment of that, where we’re in two completely different states halfway across the country, and it looks like you’re just sitting right in front of me. It’s pretty wild.
[...] the goal, and we have a project that’s working on this already, is just to do a very quick scan with your cell phone where you just take your phone, wave it in front of your face for a couple of minutes, say a few sentences, make a bunch of expressions, but, overall, have the whole process just be two to three minutes and then produce something that’s of the quality of what we have right now.
Lex: I’m actually almost at a loss for words. This is just so incredible. This is truly incredible. I hope that people watching this can get a glimpse of how incredible it is.
I've honestly never been all that interested in getting a VR headset... until now!

Yeah people laughed this off at first because the graphics were so garbage with the first stuff coming out. I get the appeal when it's closer to a photorealistic representation
