that the earth is destroyed before we become intelligent enough to spread our filth into the universe


does anyone disagree? Will the universe benefit from us and our ways?

Sorry to break it to you, but we and the earth are already part of the universe. And to answer your question, I think a bunch of the universe is aware of us and our ways (with its filth) and is trying to help us through it before we do destroy ourselves. Check out Bob Frissell's "You Are a Spritual Being Having a Human Experience". He's got some pretty interesting ideas. As of now, I'm pretty sure most of the other beings of the universe are at a "higher level of consciousness" (if you will) than humans. If not, wouldn't we be aware of them?

Perhaps, exactly these journeys from earth are needed for humans, to recognise how important and vulnerable our earth is.
Many astronauts have reported these insights.
Perhaps, that's not only good for the earth itself, but for the human race, too.

See, I wouldn't hope for total destruction of the planet. I mean, while yes, it would spare the rest of the universe from the horrors of humanity, it would also be the doom of thousands of other species, interesting geographic formations and remove all chance of humanity changing and growing as a species/society. I for one would not want to elimante the Earth's waterfalls, forests, whales, wolves, symphonies, philosophies, mushrooms, etc etc etc.

Perhaps going out into the universe could teach people how very small and unimportant we actually are.

But, on the other hand, it's pretty likely that humanity will destroy itself sooner or later.

Don't fall into the fallacy of thinking that we are separate in any way from the Universe. Nothing which exists in the Universe can be separate from the Universe :wink:

To blame our faults on intelligence is also wrong. Intelligence is, now, the only thing that can get us out of this mess we are in!
