Pain from microdosing - need your help 1

Hey! I'm relatively new to this game and I need the help of you professionals. In short, here's my journey with mushrooms: - May-June: Started in May with about 0.5-0.7 grams of mushrooms. It was absolutely fantastic and completely changed my life. I took it every day (more than the recommended protocols) and felt amazing. - July-August: Started a new batch of mushrooms. Even at low doses, I experienced immediate side effects. I had leg cramps and severe back pain. I suspect that I got a bad batch (that it was somehow contaminated), but foolishly, I continued taking it). - August: Went back to the mushrooms I started with. The side effects disappeared immediately, and I had the same positive experiences. However, over the past few months, the back pain has started to return. It started gradually, and now I have a lot of pain every time I take it (I still take 0.5-0.7 grams). It doesn't help if I wait a week between each doses, the pain still comes. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm so sad that something that helped me so much has started causing me more pain than well-being. Does anyone have any advice?

Do you have an existing medical condition that could case the pain? Also check that you are storing your mushrooms properly in a dark dry place with a desiccant and that your existing mushrooms are not bendy (snap when bent)

Thank you for your answer! I have no medical conditions, other than lacking a vitamin (iron). The “bad” mushrooms I got were very bendy, but the ones I am using now are not. I put it into capsules and store them in empty vitamin bottles in a dark closet. Is that ok? I haven’t stored them with a desiccant, do I need to do that?

I'd assume the pain is unrelated.

Leg cramps and back pain sounds like magnesium deficiency. I'd supplement with a B complex, magnesium and potassium just in case. Bendy mushrooms probably lost a lot of potency. I'd add a desiccant pack for storage if you're planning on storing for a while. Capsules will help with minimizing contact with air and desiccant will keep em nice and dry. Could you describe the back pain? Is it lower back, upper back. Muscle or skeletal pain?

Supplements are a very good idea, thank you! I actually felt like the bendy “bad” batch we’re very strong. I could feel a pretty heavy effect even on lower doses, despite that I at that point were starting to get use to it. I almost feel like that batch “destroyed” my body’s respondent to mushroom? I have never had back pain before, so it is difficult to describe. It changes place from my low back up to between my shoulders. It gets better if I lay down, but that isn’t possible in my hectic everyday life.

Yeah, supplement for let's say a month and if you stop getting leg cramps then I'd look into some back exercises. Sometimes the back hurts due to weak muscles that are struggling to support. Also make sure to stay hydrated.

I recommend a hot water bottle on your back and why not an essential oil of wintergreen or cajeput, it relieves me in any case. And for cramps, this can actually come from a magnesium deficiency. Hoping it gets better.

Reading your story the pain seems to be related to the intake of mushrooms, or at least you hypothesise a causal relationship between the microdose intake and the unwanted painful effects. It could be anything. It can well be a placebo effect, though I'm inclined to say it is not. Find a medical practitioner who knows more. Maybe a neurologist. Anyways, I immediately in your case think about nerves and some blockage, and the effect that psilocybin has on neuronal connections (at least proven in mice, some years ago); so, maybe some (beneficial?) interaction? Let some MP look at your spine and let them press on some places. Might very well be something, and really small and easily treatable.

There is a lot of bad advice in this thread except for the last couple of comments.
Don’t eat essential oils on a whim, a lot of them are quite toxic. People who are into them for curing things generally believe it because snake oil salespeople have sold it to them. Bad idea.
I’d recommend to stop microdosing. For me, there is no long term benefit to microdosing. I like the occasional micro dose for a bit of fun, but even after a few days of use I notice negative side effects on my energy levels and mental health. The uplift doesn’t last.
Also, 0.5 to 0.7 grams is not a micro dose. You’re taking about 5 times the amount of a micro dose.

That's true, essential oils should only be used externally and in small quantities, mixed with olive oil or similar.
Concerning cramps, I found magnesium (as oxide) to be helpful. I also read that psilocybin lowers the magnesium level in the blood. Not sure if this is related to your back problems but it might be.

your mind and body have a natural pain threshold. it's known that with external analgesics the internal threshold will go down, meaning your natural endorphins will decrease.
at some point you will have to reestablish a higher pain threshhold through the usual means, exercise, good diet, natural circadian rhythms of sleep cycle, activity at right times, etc.
if you had decrease of pain during your shroom expedition it was probably due to sdnra sero, dopa, norep, release, all of which will have some functional analgesia until they become full through your synapses. then you will grow used to them, and your ordinary usual mind will take back over.
would have been better to up for a couple days down for the other days and not max out your receptors and monoamines.
would probably be best for you to take something like buspirone and selegiline for serotonin and dopamine agonization and stay off all psychedelics for a time. use kratom instead if you must use something. kratom is a very complex and useful natural substance. i recommend the bali family. small numbers of whole herb gelcaps am and pm (small numbers) cheers. and best wishes

Kinda sounds like woodlover poisoning to me. Are the dried caps of your shrooms a dark brown? Are the stems thin and blue stained?

I've had tensing up from emotions escaping. For me though, dosing actually relieves spasms and cramps
