Task Transformation Survey: Crafting Your Motivation Blueprint
    #28537744 - 11/10/23 07:57 PM (2 months, 16 days ago)

Is there a task or activity that you've been wanting to accomplish but find yourself feeling unmotivated or apathetic towards? We understand that starting or completing certain tasks can sometimes feel daunting or less appealing. To help you overcome this, we're applying the Qualitative Integration Model, which aims to create a positive feedback loop for task engagement.

Please describe the task in detail below. Include any specific aspects that contribute to your apathy, such as the time it might take, the effort required, or any other factors that make it less appealing. Also, if there are any aspects of the task you think you might enjoy or benefit from, please share those as well.

Your responses will enable us to provide a tailored framework, leveraging the Qualitative Integration Model, to potentially transform your approach to this task. The goal is to help you craft a personal positive feedback loop, enhancing your motivation and making the task more approachable and engaging.

A little bit of depth will be required for anyone who wants a tailored framework.

I'll provide the first example,

Task Description:
What is the specific task or activity you need assistance with?
Please provide as much detail as possible about the nature of the task.

Quote:

I want to make an oil painting of a galah sitting on a branch overlooking a valley with a river flowing down it, I've done a rough sketch on canvas already.

Quantitative Metrics:
Total Time: Estimate the total time, in minutes, you expect the task to take.

Quote:

I think it will take about 1-2 hours to paint

Monetary Cost: Estimate the total monetary cost associated with the task, in dollars.

Quote:

Maybe $10 of paint, and $5 worth of art supplies.

Qualitative Metrics:
Sources of Apathy:
What are the specific aspects of the task that are causing you to feel unmotivated or apathetic?

Quote:

I feel like it won't look the way I want it too, and that it could be messy.

Are there any perceived challenges or barriers that contribute to this feeling?

Quote:

I feel like the mess could be an issue, and I haven't done oil paintings before, but I have done watercolour ones. I have an issue with not being able to see the lines I've drawn as the oil paint covers them.

Potential Enjoyable Aspects:
Are there any elements of the task that you might find enjoyable or satisfying?

Quote:

I like the creative process and the final result is mesmerising and often gives me a lot of positivity reflecting on.

Can you identify any potential benefits or positive outcomes from completing the task?

Quote:

I could potentially sell it for around $50, or 25 dollars for each hour I put in, and the personal satisfaction of completing a piece of art is nice to think about too.

Desired Outcomes:
What do you hope to achieve by completing this task?

Quote:

I want to achieve a simple oil painting of a bird in nature that looks nice and develops my skills in oil painting. Maybe to sell it too, or to have it to be able to think or contemplate selling it.

How does this task align with your personal or professional goals?

Quote:

Well, it doesn't really align with any professional goals, not yet, and personally, I'm not entirely sure, I think the goal is to further develop skills and almost to impress myself?

Previous Experience:
Have you undertaken similar tasks before? If so, what was your experience?

Quote:

I've done 3 water colour canvases so far and they've gotten better and better each time, but the hard part was coming up with an idea for a painting that I liked, and could actually visualise myself completing.

Were there strategies or aspects that worked well or not so well in the past?

Quote:

Having an idea to think about for a while to make it easier to visualise, and taking it one step at a time, also being able to share my progress with some friends for each step of the sketching, designing and drawing and painting process.

Additional Comments:
Is there any other information you think might be relevant for creating your tailored framework?

Quote:

I've only started painting this year, I started with crayons and moved to pen, and after maybe 8 months tried a real watercolour canvas.

Quote:

1. Setting the Stage:
Allocate 2 hours for the painting session.
Organize your workspace and supplies for efficiency.

2. Positive Tone through Visualization:
Instead of focusing on the end result, visualize engaging in the painting process itself. Imagine the strokes, the blending of colors, and the overall creative flow.

3. Managing Expectations:
Approach this as a learning experience. Each brushstroke contributes to your growth in using oil paints.

4. Tackling the Process:
Since oil paints will cover your sketch lines, plan to start with the background and then progress to the central bird figure, using your sketch as a general guide.

5. Breaking Down the Task:
Divide the painting into stages such as initial layout, background work, detailing the bird, and final touches.

6. Peer Engagement:
Share your progress with friends for motivation and feedback.

7. Reflection and Learning:
Focus on the learning aspect rather than the completion. Reflect on the new techniques you tried, the challenges you faced, and how they contributed to your skill development.

8. Contemplation for Future Growth:
After the painting session, think about what you enjoyed, what you found challenging, and how this experience can inform your future artistic endeavors.

By adjusting your focus to the process and learning aspects of the task, you can create a motivating environment that values progress and personal development, helping to transform any initial apathy into a positive, engaging experience.

Number 3 really struck me.

While QIM provides a flexible approach to tasks and goals, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can do anything without limits or constraints. It encourages a holistic perspective and allows for a broader range of possibilities and approaches, but it still operates within the constraints of reality and the specific context of the task at hand.

In essence, QIM is empowering in the sense that it encourages individuals to consider both quantitative and qualitative aspects, fostering creativity and personal growth. However, it doesn't imply unlimited possibilities; rather, it promotes a thoughtful and balanced approach to achieving objectives. The success of applying QIM depends on how effectively it's implemented in a given context.

So what did I mean in sharing that most recent visualisation?

I made a visualisation of a human head with earth as the foreground and space as the background, with a line down the center of the image,

The left side of the human entity with a realistic brain and computer like neural visualisations represents the cognitive and rational aspects of human beings. It signifies our ability to understand, analyse, and engage with the grounded and structured aspects of our reality. This side of the image suggests a logical and analytical approach to the world.

On the other hand, the right side of the head and brain filled with vibrant and fantastical colors, resembling a cloud of cosmic dust with rainbow elements, symbolises the imagination inherent in humanity and our intricate potential for creativity and the exploration of new ideas. I wanted to emphasise the balance between the rational and the imaginative, the grounded and the cosmic, which are all central concepts in QIM.

I think it effectively combines elements of human cognition and creativity with the contrasting concepts of grounded reality and cosmic imagination. If I was asked what I meant when sharing the image, I think this is it.

And so I did my first oil painting, it starts with prepping the table, and one brush stroke :cookiemonster:

it's an ice-melter, but the composition is squished at the top and stiffly figure centered in the middle.
great beginning to your art career!
