Allenii in rural western Sonoma County, popping up despite the cold. No rain lately, but we've been absolutely socked in with thick fog the last few mornings.

glad to see that fog is still pushing up some fruits in some places, but mostly ive just been seeing patches that are getting super dried out by now. despite the general lack of rain this season so far, im surprised by all the patches ive come across in the past week or so. heres some from today :

i think im gonna take a break from hunting until this next system rolls through next week, hopefully its arriving in time to push the season back into swing again

this allenii patch was already pinning well before the recent rains so i went to go harvest

then this patch was right next to my car door where I parked. I thought it was hypholoma at first glance, but on closer inspection turned out to be a young Allenii patch, a bit wind bruised and dried. I would normally leave these to mature but it was a sun-exposed patch in a place where kids play sometimes, so i decided to grab them before they get trampled or dried out

both KissMycelium’s and my last photo show patches growing out of pine duff cover, and the others ive seen recently either had significant leaf cover or were in very deep shade

I should probably retract this statement. I checked a lot of deep habitat spots yesterday, seems limited and spotty at the moment, definitely not looking like a season’s peak of plenty out there. Maybe this weeks system will bring some early year flushes, lets see

in my experience, season for both allenii and cyans starts winding down first week of january, finishing up by mid-january

we can find them later than that of course, but much less frequently

seems like my known spots aren’t doing anything at all.
but hunting new terrain has been pretty efficacious this season, lot of new spots. There are mature patches out there now, found these on a late afternoon jaunt in the rain today

hi Rafiikii, wow, those are awesome looking…
ive never found any subs so cant say anything except they look just like pics of them that ive seen on other threads

you found those randomly in some potted plant somewhere? is there a backstory? great pics

those convex edges with that umbo look so cool

i also found something interesting today, but less unusual than Rafiikii’s

I found 8 or 9 of these clusters and instantly thought of that awesome patch that ZenZone posted early on in the season

wish I’d gotten more/better pics. it was right in front of the entrance to a building and people kept coming out so I tried to be quick. Not anywhere as extensive or as awesome as the one ZenZone found, but still got a decent haul

woah, thats wild
i wonder if its some exotic plant imported from new zealand or somewhere else where subaeruginosa grows…
maybe it rode into town on the plants roots somehow

i remember auweia found some in the bay years ago but that was an impossibly rare occurence, so finding some in a potted plant is even more absurdly strange

I am going to do a huge photo dump on here soon. This season is insane. Best yet. I've already gotten over 5 dried pounds. The amounts are staggering. I'm spending hours a day picking spots. Good thing I don't have a job to get in the way 😁 here's a few choice pics for now. They're out there in massive numbers. Office parks are your best friend. Talk to the security guards, most of them don't give a fuck and think it's awesome.

damn that sounds like some serious pickin’
keep up the good work

hope i can recover from this nasty flu in time for one last hunt
