justjarvis said: Nice Dandurn! I decided to check some of my spots today, and ended up in my favorite hunting zone and guess what? Cyans in SF! I found 3 fairly significant flushes, left lots of pins, and harvested the biggest ones. Not bad since I thought I wouldn't find anything out there and we've really only had a small amount of rain and fairly high temperatures nearing 70.

Nice finds! Love to see it starting to happen in SF! Some real rain over the next few days, overnight temps starting to drop into the 40s.

I've been keeping an eye on the cyans patch I found in SF last season and it has fruited since I last checked about two weeks ago. Maybe bigger than last year at the same spot. Picked 20, left another 20 or so pins growing that I'll go back for later if others don't find them first!

Found 4 new spots today, all within a half mile surrounding the only other spot I'd found .
Picked some choice ones, left a ton behind to grow a bit more over the next few days .

Yea and they're everywhere.
Four days hunting in a row for me and four days of finding new patches. I swear I'm seeing as many cyans as I am anything else. Leaving tons of pins around as well that will hopefully blossom.
Here's some pics from today.

These guys growing right around some mycena...

The picture doesn't do justice but this guy was huge, 5-6cm across. Left a dense spore print on the one beneath too.

4" damn!
But yea season is winding down. I checked my spots today and picked two mature cyans, left about 10 smaller guys that I'm hoping will put on some weight with some rain over the weekend.
Clocking in around an ounce of dried cyans this year. More than double what I found in my first year hunting last year, so pretty pleased with this year's flush .

Yea, I grabbed a nice haul this past weekend as well. A few spots had a second flush.
A nice little trio:

Love the caramel caps when they are wet:

A baby slug blasting off underneath this guy:

One of many patches of pins I saw that I'll be going back for after next weekend's rains:

Finally, some fresh caps from the weekend sautéing in butter , read more here:

I'm expecting one more successful hunting outing sometime next week to pick up the pins.

Saw these little pins on Sunday.

Looks like it'll be dry for the next week or so... curious to see how big those guys will get.

Checked back on those pins from my last post, and not only had they grown but a handful of others popped up around. Encouraged enough to check on a few other spots and definitely seeing a lot of new action since Sunday. One patch kicking off a third decent size flush and several patches with a few new cyans popping.
Jan 2024 has been the gift that keeps on giving.
