Previous El Niño years have been very productive years. Hopefully that continues. Happy hunting everyone!

I think we need to consolidate to a single thread. There are like 3 of them.

Yeah. This season start is so slow compared to the last 2 years. But seems like it should kick off pretty soon. I’ve visited several of my spots and haven’t seen much of anything at least in SF proper. Up north I think is a different situation.

Nice Dandurn! I decided to check some of my spots today, and ended up in my favorite hunting zone and guess what? Cyans in SF! I found 3 fairly significant flushes, left lots of pins, and harvested the biggest ones. Not bad since I thought I wouldn't find anything out there and we've really only had a small amount of rain and fairly high temperatures nearing 70.

Damn, nice allenii patch myco! I've been out again.
Found this lone cyan pin in a place I found a bunch 2 years ago in GG park:

That's the only one I've seen in the park so far.
Also found a decent size flush of Allenii, but given what the weather looks like I bet the majority of it aborts pretty soon.

And more cyans out and about:

I’ve had some pretty good success but it’s all about micro climates and ground cover so far. I’m done hunting until the rain starts again.
I went back to check the status of my Allenii patch from 2 days ago. Here’s what that 75 pin patch looks like now:

Nice shovel technique? This was 2nd year in a row for that patch but it’s done. No worries though. Still got about 200g fresh mixed cyan/allenii and pretty stoked about my early season hauls. Gonna sample it this weekend.
I’m looking forward to the season peak. Happy hunting everyone!

It looked pretty surgical. Quite possible it’s just been moved and will live on. But that flush was really nice and I doubt they will survive the move.

Nice allenii. I'm here in north bay too, but not doing any serious hunting. I still managed to find what looks like active pans. Also found this guy on a short hike yesterday. Hard to tell from this distance shot but this amanita was the size of a large hat.

Wow, nice patch! Definitely looks like one of those familiar patches I've seen posted over the years from the central valley.

Had a pretty good day here in SF.
Here's my hunting partner:

Found this lovely cyan patch almost immediately:

And then found a pretty decent allenii flush but no insitu pics.
The haul (allenii in front, cyans in the rear):

2 big patches within minutes of hunting. And then the slow trickle of lesser but still appreciated finds.
I guess you don't really need a lot of rain, just need the right micro climate.
These were all from the same general area I've been hunting this season. I kinda think this could be one of those neighborhoods where Alan used to live. I certainly think somebody spread the love over there. I'm doing my part too.

Most of my spots are barren too. I did manage to find these cyans complete with slug attached.

They are out there in shady spots with ground cover.

Yes, Ps. Alenii. Nice find. If you want to get an ID, it's better to create a separate thread. But these are the goods!

I hope you have some luck there. Cyans have showed up on the east coast so probably anything is possible. Colorado does have pretty hot summers though. I think maybe the summer may be more of a problem than the winter? Anyway, here's to your success!

That's awesome! Congrats on the early season finds! I'm also having a pretty great season, certainly my best so far.
Today, I went back to my favorite spot (SF) and it is going off! Lots of Allenii and Cyan pins. Too early to pick most of it, but I still made off pretty good. I'm almost even this year between alenii and cyanescens and that's new to me. Up til now, I've usually only found cyans in bulk.
cyanescens pinning in San Francisco:

The Alenii patches I found were pretty damn extensive. I got so excited I forgot to take pics. I was short on time and if I had looked more I'm certain more would have been found. Gonna be a major haul next week and if they're still there I'll take a bunch of pics then.
It is getting good out there!!! Damn I love this hobby.

They love eucalyptus from what I’ve seen. Redwood is naturally antifungal I think. Just about any hardwood is fine and even pine has worked.

Indeed, there's been virtually no rain and yet I've had my best season yet. The fog and morning dew at the coast has kept things going well in spots that have plenty of ground cover

bush-lurker said: i think im gonna take a break from hunting until this next system rolls through next week, hopefully its arriving in time to push the season back into swing again
Yeah, I'm holding off until the rains as well. I went back to hopefully harvest the big allenii patch I left to mature last week, but instead found another shoveled trough. Not sure if this is a hunter or a land maintenance person. Hrm. No worries though, plenty of cyans around that weren't dug up:

I think we're about to head into the peak of the season and hopefully my other spots come alive soon. Happy hunting everyone!

Same here at the coast. But that being said, this early season has been great even though the rain has been limited. So I’m anticipating the peak window to be bonkers. Things are primed here. Lots of tall grass ready for the explosion.
