I think a patch will last a good 2 years at best unless carefully maintained

Is there any way to know what kind of wood these colored woodchips are made of? I know mushrooms don't like cypress, cedar, redwood- cupressaceae family wood. Or eucalyptus. What other kind of wood don't they like?

For sure. I think the weed control fabric the gardeners put under wood chips is annoying. I think it prevents mushrooms from growing. It also disintegrates after a while and leaves a bunch of plastic fabric pollution in the soil. Also, weeds eventually grow over it anyway.

Here's to not legalizing mushrooms this year on october 7. Revenge of the shrooms. They're like "we're a native species, how can we be illegal?"

No pics right now but... it's been a good year for me. I found 10 new spots this season. 3 cyan spots, 7 allenii. I harvested a good amount of fat allenii yesterday. Those 3 spots had put out one flush already a few weeks ago. These were mostly mature mushrooms, no new pins. I found another new allenii spot yesterday also, but they were too far gone to harvest. So it seems allenii are more common? But in the area where I live, cyanescens have been the most common find for me, 3 to 1 vs allenii, over several years, 2 cyan spots found here this season. One cyan patch had really small mushrooms, anyone know why? Some areas have just been loaded this year, making it nearly impossible to not find any. The hunting in the coast hasn't been nearly as productive as closer to the bay. Hope this all makes sense. Some of the spots are very close to each other, but in different beds separated by sidewalk or pavement. I did not include or count those as being separate spots in the total, though.
