Papaver Somniferum???
    #2851799 - 07/02/04 02:50 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I found these at a local park in seattle, and was wondering if these are ones with the "goodies" in them. I know they aren't the typical P. Somniferum, but I've seen them HERE, at poppies.org.

FYI, @cro and some of his friends havent had much luck with getting a good high from using poppies found around town... it seems growing your own gives you the best results.

but beautiful finds anyways! they're popping up everywhere around here!

Psilygirl, Are you they are not Orientalis? How are they being prepared? Fresh or dried? 20-40 small freshies in 2 cups grapefruit juice + blender = nod.

I was referring to this thread...

it is @cro's experience, not mine, i'm not totally sure on the details of how they were prepared other than reading the thread...

It amazes me that some people need to deliberately grow poppies. If I went around my town with a pair of scissors I reckon I could easily get three or four shopping bags full of pods. There are literally hundreds of them growing as weeds. They have single flowers (I mean one "layer" of petals per flower, not one flower per plant!), light pink with a darker purple/red spot at the base of the petals. It probably is an escaped ornamental strain, but I think in this case quantity might make up for quality .
In fact, maybe I should go round and collect them... I'll get ya'll some pics of my harvest if I do .

Edit: they look pretty much like this, actually: http://www.humboldt.edu/~morgan/images/papaver.jpg

Can anyone ID that strain?

yeah, those are a common ornamental strain of p. soms.  never tried em myself...

I saw a store around the ave with a whole fucking bunch right by the sidewalk. I think someone dumped a bunch of seeds there or something cause theres a big long strip of em all clumped up. kinda in the shade though, not quite ready to flower, should look nice when they do though, it'll be interesting to see how long they stay .

Even if you can only get the ornamental variety of pap. somniferum you can make a crude extraction and make pod putty. Good thing about making pod putty is you can use the stems and leaves so nothing goes to waste.

JimmytheWorm...can you elaborate on this "pod putty"?? Steps to produce?

mr_minds_eye...don't worry, I'm smarter than to get caught up with opiates. It'll be traded for something else.

Also, the one I picked had a pretty soft pod. I scored the pod, and nothing oozed out. Should I wait for them to harden a bit? SInce they didnt ooze, I decided to split the pod open. The seeds inside were white. I'm guessing the pod wasn't ripe yet. Am I correct?

As far as growing my own, I have some Giganteum and Hens n Chicks seeds. I just might have to set up a grow room.

found some growing in front of an apartment in seattle on july 4th. Huge pods, and a few scores in most of the pods. No, I didn't take them. I'm surprised they havent been ripped out. They're in a pretty obvious spot.
