Nah, I wouldnโt man. No need. Somebody else could find these posts useful down the line. Good luck hunting.

Hello, Iโm new to foraging gyms but I have experience in other categories, I currently donโt have a microscope for proper identification, but I will be taking spore prints. To best help me identify. Of course I did not take spore prints of the mushrooms above because they were seeming rotted and slugged, but Iโm wondering do these look to be gymnopilus? Iโm more wondering if the 2 caps growing directly from the base of the tree. I understand that they most likely are not active and thereโs no proper way to identify from my photos but I was just sharing some of my recent findings in hope that Iโm on the right track.

Also I did not notice any bruising.. I held onto a fruit while hiking for a good 10 minutes to no avail. I did see what seemed like a very light tint of bluing on the base of the stipe but it could have been placebo.

I'm not a TI, but I'm a Gym hunter who's 99/100 sure those are Gyms, as the scaly cap, color, gills, and growth habit look right. I'm only a bit less than 99/100 on those being G. subspectabilis, but since I'm not up on G. lutes and it's close relatives I'm a bit shy about species.
Good job! Please note the location as you are likely to see more fruits there in the future!

This pic, combined with Moira's earlier post(s) about harvesting or leaving fruits to grow, makes me wonder if we should be discussing how to handle found subspects. I make a point of harvesting ASAP, I'm in MD and not only do the specimens not seem to grow much once they appear, there's a really high likelihood of their rotting in very short order. The fastest rotting, IME, are when the myc is frisbee-sized and jam-picked with lots of pins with a few larger fruits.

Old compared to young. Look at the color change cause of the spores.

Damn northerners with your early Gymnopilus season. Beautiful finds so far! Yโall getting me excited for the cooler weather.
Quick question about subspectabilis. Does anyone know if a freeze has anything to do with setting fruit? Looks like weโre going to get a two or three week earlier freeze this year here in the south so wondering if I should be checking the spots a bit earlier. Usually find the subspectabilis around early to mid December where Iโm at.

Thank you for this post and discussion! I happened upon my first G luteofolius (most likely) accidentally this week, quite a lot of them, ~650g and theyโre pretty dry. Theyโre already partly dried out - we had one rain and went back to dry. Have been trying to decide if I should make some tea and dry some. Would love any advice.
If itโs better to ditch the partially dried ones and wait for a fresh flush, I could do that too.
Iโll add a couple of pics here, just for reference. There are more in the ID thread I posted.
** ignore the buchwaldoboletus in the background. Collecting those for someone trying to culture them. I know those are an entirely different thing.

My patch is flushing again

Earlier this month

Growing on the decomposing roots of a fruit tree that I cut down a 4-5 years ago.
Thinking about getting some wood chips and adding them to see if I can keep it growing, anyone try that and think it will work?

Can't hurt is right. Might get some applewood chips and incorporate. Gotta be stealthy-ish, this patch is in my front yard don't want to draw attention to it

Picked a few to print today

Iโd say itโs definitely worth a shot I found a 1 lb + flush on an old stump that was chewed up by a stump grinder (I assume). Fine chips essentially.

I also took a little less then a shopping bags worth of myc/chips/spawn and buried it in my backyard in a few spots that have old stumps/ root systems ๐ค๐ป

Wanted to show off this monster 4 1/2lb flush a found a few weeks ago, along with the 1+lb flush from the above post and the tea making session that ensued!
(Only took the fresh flush shown with the sharpie, left the older flush to do its thing)

Each set of cups is about 110 g. Fresh equivalent. Ended up with 24 full doses frozen and at the ready. (There is actually another 3 full doses that arenโt in the picture, forgot to pour the rest of the jug before I snapped the pic)

Hell yeah man! That's the Gymn guarantee, they may be weaker than other stuff but you're often guaranteed a dozen+ doses from each flush!

Damn soloist I've definitely found some places I need to keep checking and remember for next year so I can get a good haul, cause even if I found rotten ones I would stuff them into rotten logs or wood piles close around in any attempt they might spread. I would have been walking out the woods like

I only plan on tripping on full moons and solstice/equinoxes so itโs a great feeling that knowing Iโm stocked for the foreseeable future, thatโs not to say I donโt want to try my skills at cubes haha. I love the hunt and finding the medicine in its natural habitat too, 24/7 head on a swivel for mushrooms. I like the fact that I can find so much that I could never use, and be able to give some to people who donโt have the knowledge to find their own.
Iโve absolutely put rotten ones on stump ect too in hopes to expand my spots. I was definitely that excited when I found these haha. Funny thing is it was along a busy roadโฆeven funnier that NO BODY else knows that these are what they are haha, my little secret. Some guy walking his dog even dropped the โfun-giโ joke as I was harvesting these ๐
