please help me to understand well spawn ratio on pink oysters and reishi.

hello. i am a bit confuse in the spawn ratio for pink oysters and reishi.
first of all , on with weight do i calculate the spawn ratio? wet spawn/substrate volume? or wet spawn / dry sub weight ? or wet spawn / wet substrate ?

can you  tell me a good ratio for reishis and pink oysters  (specifying whether the substrate is calculated by volume, or dry or wet) ?
thanks in advance

Depends on what you’re spawning to. If you’re spawning to sterile supplemented blocks you can use a lot less spawn and if going to lipa style wood pellets you’ll need more.

I never messed with exact % numbers but one jar to 4-6 sterile supplemented blocks or one jar to 1-2 lipa wood pellets is a good starting point. Mess around and see what works best for you.

If you’re taking reishi to coir you should look up one of the grows on here and see how they went about it.

i spawn on 2 hours 70 celsius  pasteurized grass + a bit of rice skull for the pink oysters ( i get the grass just near my house and we cut 1/3 inch long).

and i spawn on hard wood saw dust ( done with a chain saw , so pretty big pieces) pasteurized for 2 hours at 70 celsius.

i understand that this is the ratio more or less.... for both strains...

5-10% spawn ratio with wet spawn and wet straw ( or wet saw dust)

5% spawn rate is typically for heavily supplemented sterile substrates like wood/soy hulls or wood/bran. With a lightly supplemented grass like what I believe you are saying and definitely with just wood you will be using a bit more.

Someone with more experience with pasteurized subs will be able to help you more with that but I’m fairly certain you’ll be more in the 10-20% range. Even with a lightly supplemented grass you may benefit from the 20% spawn but I’ll let someone else with more experience chime in on that one.

Weight of spawn to weight of hydrated substrate. 5lb of pasteurized wood @ 20% spawn would be 1lb of spawn.

:whathesaid: you are right on southerner.

20% is about the highest you want to go with pasteurized subs and 5% pushing the lower limits.

With sterilized supplemented substrate you can spawn as low as 1% (maybe even less) and still have good yield. As long as 100% colonization can be achieved on your timescale I think your good.

There's an interesting episode of mycowizards where the guest (sorry I can't remember who) had just been traveling around the world visiting different mushroom farms. One of the more unique setups they talk about is a farm which sterilizers their substrate in bags and inoculates with a single colonized stake that is simply stabbed into the side of the bag like it's a vampire. So one inoculation point and zero grains. Longer colonization period but still will give decent yield.
