Outdoor failure w/Moes tek
    #2850389 - 07/02/04 06:59 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

My friend is in Florida, and followed Moe's to the letter (if that is possible! ) and after a month,  only one in four beds had produced any fruit, and that one was a very light single flush about 2 weeks ago.

BRF cakes were used as spawn, 3 strains of P. Cub, 2 half pint cakes per 12 x 6 inch hole, and 2 month old composted horse manure and soaked hay were used. One of the beds was dug up and showed almost no mycelium growth, just a tiny bit around the hay.

A Home Depot moisture meter was used to assure humidity.

He thinks he may have watered it a bit too much, about a half gallon every 3 days if no rain... but would like
to get further opinion before any more mistakes are made.

He thanks any response.

Well they don?t like hay better use straw next time. Hay contains alot of contams and isn't really good food for shrooms.

2 cakes per hole? you could have used more for an outdoor garden imo 2 isn?t nearly enough. And offcourse 2 months old compost isn?t great either.

Are there marks of digging near the sites cauze insects and animals love grains/rice.

They may not like it,but, they do fruit from it ,bulk hay casing VVV

But,I will say that it is more likely to contam than straw

I used 1 pint per hole here VVVVV

And they are still fruiting

Give them more time. Water only when the surface is dry. Only give it a heavy dose maybe once a week, depending on your soil type.

ok, in summary:

more [millet] spawn,
try straw or just plain poo,
water when surface dry,
be patient...

i'll tell him.

anything else?

btw, there didn't seem to be any varments encroaching.

thanx
