What are the odds?
    #28502488 - 10/12/23 09:38 PM (3 months, 14 days ago)

With Steve Scalise dropping out of the Speakership race and all the other shenanigans going on within the GOP, what are the odds of six or seven moderate Republicans voting present when they do finally get around to voting for the Speaker of the House?

This would put Jefferies as the Speaker and completely shut down the MAGA wing of the GOP.
Will the MAGA trolls force the moderates to vote present?
You may choose only one

If I were a moderate Republican, this is how I'd play my hand.

I'd find six or seven like-minded politicians and get them in on it, too. Once they finally decide on who they want as Speaker, I'd get up and say that for every MAGA that votes against our guy one other moderate will vote present, until either ...

A. the GOP candidate is Speaker, or
B. enough GOP politicians vote present that Jefferies gets the nominee

FUCK THESE MAGA TRAITORS ! ! !

I think the democrats might work a deal with a dozen or so more reasonable republicans to push trough a more moderate Republican speaker.

Republicans won’t let a democrat run their house majority, but they might let democrats break their internal impasse

No chance that the Democrats will save the GOP from itself.

It would be stupid AF for democrats to help.

But at the same time, the GOP play is weaponized incompetence, so they win by default.

Though they do tend to get the blame for shutdowns, and when the military stops getting paid...or when ATC starts calling in sick, especially with that near miss in TX.

Edit: ironically I think there is a geopolitical allegory at play here. If Israel just sits back and waits, Hamas gets starved of oxygen and capitulates.

Oh yeah, because the GOP will TOTALLY hold up their end.

Edit: no, for realsies this time, not like the several deals they made with democrats on spending, and then blew up resulting in this exact mess.

The big thing missing from this ‘GOP in disarray’ analysis is that they don’t really care about not being in disarray.

Worst case scenario, Congress accomplishes nothing in Biden’s lame duck session approaching 2024. Jordan might be an unlikeable pedophile, but he’ll absolutely keep the gravy train rolling for all the right people and make sure aid (bombs and guns) gets to Israel. Beyond that, they don’t give a single shit, all their voters will blame Biden for their inaction anyway. Any moderates in the GOP that haven’t been turned off by now, won’t be.

“Hey maybe this is the breaking point and the reasonable guys will cross the aisle and restore decency.”

Just stop. Get some help.
